The Chairman of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Ebonyi State Chapter, Comrade Douglas Ochishi, has called on the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), His Excellency Nyesom Wike, to refrain from interfering in the political affairs of Ebonyi State.
Speaking at his office in Abakaliki on Saturday, Ochishi reacted to reports alleging that the FCT Minister had expressed interest in influencing the political landscape of Ebonyi State ahead of the 2027 general elections in favour of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
According to the youth leader, the people of Ebonyi State are united by a common cultural heritage and shared values and remain committed to preserving the peace, stability, and progress currently enjoyed in the state.
“Ebonyi State is a peaceful and progressive state under the leadership of Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru. Our people will continue to protect the unity, harmony, and democratic values that define our political environment,” he said.
Ochishi noted that the youths of Ebonyi State have continued to express confidence in Governor Nwifuru’s administration due to its investments in youth empowerment, infrastructure development, education, healthcare, agriculture, and inclusive governance.
He maintained that Ebonyians are politically conscious and capable of making independent decisions without external influence.
“The people of Ebonyi State cannot be swayed by money politics, political intimidation, or external pressure. The youths remain committed to supporting good governance and sustaining the developmental strides being recorded across the state,” he added.
Ochishi further urged political leaders across the country to respect the autonomy of states, uphold the principles of federalism, and promote issue-based politics anchored on development, peace, national unity, economic prosperity, mutual respect, and democratic values.
He also called on political stakeholders to avoid actions or statements capable of creating unnecessary tension, division, or political unrest, stressing that the collective interest of the people must always take precedence over individual ambitions.
“The future of our democracy depends on responsible leadership, constructive engagement, and respect for the will of the people.
“Ebonyi youths remain committed to safeguarding the peace and stability of our state before, during, and after the 2027 elections,” he stated.
