IGP Disu, NBA Strengthen Partnership to Drive Criminal Justice Reforms

The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to advancing criminal justice reforms, promoting professionalism, and strengthening collaboration with key stakeholders in the justice sector.
The position was made known during a courtesy visit by a delegation of the Nigerian Bar Association led by its President, Afam Osigwe, to the Force Headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued by the Nigeria Police Force and signed by CSP Anietie Okokon Edem Iniedu, Force Public Relations Officer, Force Headquarters, Abuja.
Speaking during the meeting, IGP Disu emphasized the importance of sustained engagement between the police and legal practitioners in strengthening Nigeria’s criminal justice system.
“The Nigeria Police Force remains committed to constitutional policing, respect for fundamental rights, and adherence to due process in the discharge of its responsibilities,” the IGP stated.
He noted that effective collaboration among justice sector stakeholders is critical to promoting accountability, protecting citizens’ rights, and improving access to justice across the country.
According to the police chief, the Force will continue to pursue reforms aimed at enhancing professionalism, improving operational standards, and building greater public confidence in policing institutions.
The NBA delegation included Abdul Mohammed, First Vice President Sebastine Anya, General Secretary Dr. Mobolaji Ojibara, Chief of Staff Barbara Omosun, NBA Assistant Executive Director Salamatu Sidi, as well as Etaba Agbor and Isaac Aduloju.
Earlier, NBA President Afam Osigwe commended the Inspector-General for ongoing efforts to strengthen professionalism and accountability within the Police Force.
“The Nigerian Bar Association remains ready to support initiatives that promote justice, the rule of law, and improved service delivery,” Osigwe said.
He also used the occasion to formally invite the Nigeria Police Force to participate in the forthcoming NBA Annual General Conference.
The meeting underscored the growing partnership between the legal profession and law enforcement agencies in advancing justice sector reforms and ensuring the protection of citizens’ rights.
The Nigeria Police Force reiterated its commitment to delivering policing services in line with established laws, democratic principles, and global best practices, while continuing to engage stakeholders in efforts to strengthen the administration of justice in Nigeria.
