ANAMBRA POLICE SECURES REMAND OF HUSBAND AND WIFE OVER ALLEGED ABUSE OF A 10-YEAR-OLD BOY IN ISIOWULU

A court in Anambra State has ordered the remand of a husband and wife, Mr. Chukwudi Chukwuyere and Mrs. Chisom Chukwuyere, over their alleged involvement in the abuse of a 10-year-old boy in Isiowulu community, in a case that sparked public outrage following the circulation of disturbing videos on social media.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued by the Anambra State Police Command and signed by SP Tochukwu Ikenga, Police Public Relations Officer, Anambra State Command, Awka.
According to the police, the suspects, aged 40 and 30 respectively, were arraigned in court after preliminary investigations into the matter were concluded.
The case drew widespread attention after reports and video footage allegedly showing the victim’s condition surfaced online, prompting public concern and calls for justice.
In the statement, the Police Command said the successful prosecution process was aided by the vigilance and cooperation of residents who provided timely information that led to the rescue of the child.
“The Anambra State Police Command commends the residents of the area for their vigilance, cooperation, and timely provision of information that led to the rescue of the child and ensured that he received the necessary medical attention, while the suspects were apprehended,” the statement said.
The police noted that the intervention ensured the victim was removed from harm’s way and received urgent medical care while investigations progressed.
The Command reiterated its commitment to protecting vulnerable persons and ensuring justice for victims of abuse, stressing that human rights violations would not be tolerated.
“The Anambra State Police Command remains committed to promoting justice and the protection of human rights in line with the vision of the Inspector General of Police,” the statement added.
Police authorities further assured members of the public that updates on the case would be communicated as legal proceedings continue.
The remand of the couple marks a significant step in the ongoing efforts by law enforcement agencies to address child abuse and protect the rights and welfare of children across Anambra State.
