The Federal Government is set to commence the rehabilitation of the Bama–Banki Road and the Dikwa–Gamboru-Ngala Road in Borno State, as the Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, arrived in the state ahead of the official flag-off ceremony scheduled for Saturday.

The projects are expected to boost connectivity, improve security, facilitate economic activities and support the ongoing recovery of communities across the North-East region.

The development was disclosed in a statement issued by the Office of the Honourable Minister of Works and signed by the Senior Special Assistant to the Honourable Minister of Works (Media), Francis Nwaze, on July 3, 2026.

According to the statement, Senator Umahi arrived in Borno State on Friday and was received at the Muhammadu Buhari International Airport by the Governor of Borno State, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum.

The statement said the official flag-off ceremony for the rehabilitation projects will be performed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who will be represented by the Vice President, Senator Kashim Shettima.

The rehabilitation of the Bama–Banki Road and the Dikwa–Gamboru-Ngala Road forms part of the Federal Government’s broader infrastructure renewal programme aimed at improving critical road networks across the country.

According to the statement, the projects are designed to strengthen transportation, enhance regional connectivity, stimulate economic growth and reinforce security in Borno State and the wider North-East.

The statement noted that the intervention underscores the Federal Government’s commitment to rebuilding strategic infrastructure that will improve the movement of people and goods while supporting socio-economic development in communities affected by years of insurgency.

The projects are also expected to enhance access to border communities, facilitate trade and contribute to the ongoing stabilisation and development efforts in the region.
