DAILY HOPE DEVOTIONAL: JULY 8 LESSONS FROM THE PARABLE OF THE PRODIGAL SON (8) SCRIPTURE: Luke 15: 20 – 24
Yesterday’s devotional dwelt much on how the prodigal son employed step of repentance to settling his case with his father. He owned up all his excesses and took responsibility to change his attitude. By strong positive resolution, he became emboldened and made up his mind and said “I will arise and go to my father…” He did not only spoke to himself but arose and began a journey back home. Today’s devotional will combine journey back home with step of reconciliation to wrap up this series. Journey back home to reconcile can play great fruitful roles in reshaping issues of life. It had restored new destiny to marriages, brotherly love to families and lasting business to cooperate bodies. Journey back home involves going to the origin of a problem to proffer solution.
He embarked on a return journey: A Jamaica Singer, Bob Marley, once sang that “He, who fights and runs away, lives to fight another day.” By implication, Bob Marley might mean one should not run away from defeat. Running away from defeat is act of cowardice. Going back to where one fought, got defeated and received shame is a practical sign of a warrior. The prodigal son refuses to think of any humiliation the father would extend to him on arrival. He made up his mind and started walking toward his country. The word “return” has several meaning with central phrase of “to come back and begin again.” In renewing of destiny one has to come back or begin again what was lost. Michael Faraday would have lost been one who invented electric bulb if he failed on returning to his workshop after several failure attempts. He failed over 500 times, but still made it by returning to his mistakes!
He subscribed to reconciliation: The word “reconciliation” simply means “restoration to harmony.” This is very useful in renewal of destiny. In renewal of destiny, steps are taken to restore what is lost, and then harmonization is established. When going through reconciliation, unpleasant condition has to be accepted. The prodigal son said he would tell the father that he would no longer be taken as a son but a slave in the house. This might make the father accepting him back easy. On arrival, he was accepted, welcome back, feast was organized for him and reconciliation consummated. He had his destiny renewed. The beloved in the LORD, the yearning of this devotional is to ask readers to look back to former life lived. Where were the disconnections which necessitated loss of destiny? Please do not stay within the box. You can first forgive yourself of self-guilt, and then reconcile with every reason that made you failed. Take a journey home today with boldness to where your trouble started, and reconcile. You are welcome to a renewed destiny!!
PRAYER:
FATHER JEHOVAH, King David said your word is a lamp to his path; give me your words which will show me new ways to live a renewed life in the name of Jesus. Give me wisdom to know how to reconcile myself with my former failures in the name of Jesus Christ.
