IGP Disu, Nigerian Engineers Forge Alliance to Boost Community Policing, Emergency Response

Police boss seeks deeper collaboration with NSE on capacity building, public safety and disaster management

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has called for stronger collaboration between the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) and the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) to enhance community policing, improve emergency response capabilities and strengthen professional training for police personnel.

The position was contained in a press statement issued by the Nigeria Police Force and signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, following a courtesy visit by the leadership of the Nigerian Society of Engineers to the Force Headquarters in Abuja.

The visit, which took place on 28 July 2026, provided a platform for both institutions to explore strategic areas of partnership aimed at improving national security, disaster response and public safety through stronger institutional cooperation.

Leading the NSE delegation, the President of the Society, Engr. Ali Alimasuya Rabiu, FNSE, F.ASCE, FAEng, MFR, congratulated the Inspector-General on what he described as the remarkable progress recorded by the Nigeria Police Force under his leadership.

Rabiu commended the long-standing cordial relationship between the NSE and the Police, acknowledging the Force’s consistent support to the engineering profession over the years.

He also informed the IGP of the Society’s forthcoming 2026 International Engineering Conference and Annual General Meeting, scheduled to hold in Maiduguri, Borno State, and appealed for the continued support of the Nigeria Police Force, particularly in providing security and participating in the event.

Responding, IGP Disu described engineers as indispensable partners in Nigeria’s development and praised their professionalism and contributions to nation-building.

The Police chief also paid tribute to officers serving in Borno State, especially those deployed in Maiduguri, for their resilience and sacrifices in maintaining security.

He assured the NSE that the Force would provide adequate security for the conference and reaffirmed the Police’s commitment to sustained collaboration with professional bodies.

“Engineers are vital partners in national development, and we remain committed to strengthening our engagement with professional bodies such as the Nigerian Society of Engineers in the interest of national security and public safety,” the IGP said.

Disu urged the NSE to actively support the Force’s community policing initiatives through sustained public enlightenment and advocacy, stressing that effective policing requires stronger collaboration with critical stakeholders.

He further encouraged the Society to involve the Nigeria Police Force in the planning and execution of its professional training programmes to enhance capacity building and knowledge sharing within the Force.

“We encourage the Nigerian Society of Engineers to always carry the Police along in the planning and execution of its training programmes. Emergency response and disaster management are also critical areas where our institutions can work together for the benefit of the nation,” he added.

The delegation included senior members of the Society, among them Engr. Kashim Abdul Ali, Engr. Tasiu Sa’ad Gidan Wudil, Engr. Aliyu Ibrahim Dutsinma, Engr. Mohammed Kabir Wanori, Engr. Ademola Isaac Agoro, Engr. Dauda Musa, and Engr. Musa Ibrahim Musa.

The Nigeria Police Force reiterated its commitment to building stronger institutional partnerships with professional organisations such as the NSE as part of efforts to enhance public safety, strengthen community policing and improve the protection of lives and property across the country.
