NEMA Receives 37 Nigerian Returnees from Türkiye, Reaffirms Commitment to Humane Reintegration
…coordinates reception with government partners, urges returnees to embrace fresh opportunities and government support programmes

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has coordinated the reception of 37 Nigerian nationals repatriated from the Republic of Türkiye, reaffirming the Federal Government’s commitment to ensuring the safe, dignified and humane reintegration of returning citizens.
The returnees arrived on Monday at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, aboard a chartered aircraft following arrangements facilitated by the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs as part of ongoing efforts to assist Nigerians returning from abroad.
The development was disclosed in a press statement issued by the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Abuja Operations Office (AOO) and signed by the Press Unit of the Abuja Operations Office on August 3, 2026.
According to the agency, the reception exercise was carried out through a coordinated inter-agency mechanism activated by the Abuja Operations Office to ensure the returnees were received in a safe, orderly and dignified manner.
Upon arrival, the returnees underwent documentation, profiling and medical screening, while immediate humanitarian assistance was provided before they were handed over to the appropriate government authorities for further reintegration programmes.
Speaking during the exercise, the Head of NEMA Abuja Operations Office, Pharm. Zakari Abubakar, said the agency remains committed to protecting the welfare and dignity of vulnerable Nigerians through effective collaboration with relevant stakeholders.
“At NEMA, our priority is to ensure that every returning Nigerian is treated with dignity, compassion and respect. We encourage our compatriots to embrace this opportunity for a fresh start, remain law-abiding, and take advantage of available government support programmes aimed at facilitating their successful reintegration into society,” Abubakar said.
He also praised the cooperation among participating agencies, noting that coordinated action remains essential for the effective reception and successful reintegration of returning migrants.
According to NEMA, the reception exercise involved officials of the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS), the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI), the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs, airport authorities, security agencies and other humanitarian partners.
The agency reiterated its commitment to working with relevant institutions to ensure that Nigerians returning from abroad receive the necessary support to rebuild their lives and reintegrate successfully into society.
