NiDCOM Celebrates Two Nigerian Academics as Saudi Universities Elevate Them to Professorship

The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) has celebrated the elevation of two Nigerian academics, Dr. Muhammad Abubakar Dalhat and Prof. Moruf Olalekan Yusuf, to the rank of Professor in Saudi Arabia, describing the achievement as a major boost to Nigeria’s reputation for academic excellence on the global stage.
The commendation was contained in a statement issued by Abdur-Rahman Balogun (mnipr), Director of Media, Public Relations and Protocols, NiDCOM, Abuja, on behalf of the Commission on August 12, 2026.
Dalhat was elevated to the rank of Professor at the College of Engineering, Transportation and Traffic Engineering, Imam Abdulrahman Bin Faisal University, while Yusuf was promoted to Professor of Civil Engineering by the University of Hafr Al Batin.
Reacting to the development, the Chairman/CEO of NiDCOM, Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, described the twin promotions as a proud moment for Nigerians in the diaspora, noting that the achievements demonstrate the quality and global competitiveness of Nigerian professionals and academics.
Dabiri-Erewa said the accomplishments of the two academics reflect the capacity of Nigerians to excel in highly competitive international academic environments.
She stated: “These twin achievements are a proud moment for the Nigerian community abroad and a reflection of the calibre of Nigerian academics excelling on the global stage.”
According to the Commission, Dalhat holds a PhD in Civil Engineering from King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals and has established a distinguished research profile in pavement design, artificial intelligence-driven material optimisation and sustainable construction materials.
He has several patents relating to asphalt material innovation, alongside numerous publications in high-impact academic journals. He also contributes to academic quality assurance and accreditation at his institution.
Yusuf, on the other hand, holds a First Class degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Ibadan, a Master’s degree from King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals and a PhD in Concrete Technology from Universiti Sains Malaysia.
He is internationally recognised for his research in sustainable construction materials, alkali-activated binders and geopolymer concrete, with more than 50 peer-reviewed publications and over 2,000 citations.
The professor is also the pioneer Chairman of the Nigerian Institution of Civil Engineers, Eastern Province Chapter, Saudi Arabia.
Dabiri-Erewa commended both academics for their contributions to teaching, research, mentorship and professional service, stressing that their achievements underscore the immense contributions Nigerians in the diaspora continue to make to their host countries.
She said their accomplishments also serve as a source of pride to Nigeria and contribute to projecting a positive image of the country internationally.
“NiDCOM remains committed to recognising and celebrating the achievements of Nigerians excelling in their various fields abroad, as their success stories continue to project a positive image of the country on the international stage,” she said.
The NiDCOM Chairman urged Dalhat and Yusuf to use their new positions to mentor younger Nigerians, particularly those pursuing academic and professional careers in Saudi Arabia.
She encouraged them to continue contributing to the development of Nigeria through knowledge transfer, mentorship and professional excellence.
The Commission said the recognition of outstanding Nigerians abroad remains an important component of its diaspora engagement strategy, particularly in showcasing Nigerians whose achievements are contributing positively to their host communities and the country’s international reputation.
