Education Empowerment: Sen. Barau Awards Scholarships to 1,000 Kano Undergraduates

The Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau I. Jibrin, CFR, FCNA, has awarded full scholarships to 1,000 undergraduates from Kano State to pursue various degree programs at the Federal University Dutsin-Ma, Katsina State.

In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ismail Mudashir, it was disclosed that the award letters will be officially distributed to beneficiaries in Kano on Saturday, September 20, 2025.

“The scholarship scheme is being implemented through the Barau I Jibrin Foundation (BIJF), which is dedicated to fostering academic excellence and providing educational opportunities to deserving students from Kano State,” Mudashir said.

According to the statement, the matriculation ceremony for the beneficiaries will take place on Monday, September 22, 2025, at the Federal University Dutsin-Ma, Katsina State.

Highlighting Senator Barau’s sustained commitment to education, Mudashir recalled that “last year, the Deputy President of the Senate, who is also the First Deputy Speaker of the ECOWAS Parliament, sponsored 70 students to pursue postgraduate studies in Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity, Forensic Sciences, among others, abroad.”

Similarly, the foundation has extended opportunities within Nigeria, where “300 students have been selected to pursue postgraduate studies in six Nigerian universities: Bayero University Kano, Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, University of Ibadan, University of Lagos, Obafemi Awolowo University Ile-Ife, and University of Nigeria Nsukka,” he added.

The initiative is seen as part of Senator Barau’s broader vision to strengthen Nigeria’s human capital development through education.
