The National Economic Council (NEC) has endorsed the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI)’s solar-powered irrigation pumps for nationwide rollout ahead of the 2025 dry-season farming.
The decision, according to report on NASENI’S Whatsapp Channel taken at NEC’s 152nd meeting in Abuja, affirms confidence in NASENI’s capacity to deliver energy-efficient, homegrown solutions to Nigeria’s food security challenges.
Developed under NASENI’s 3Cs mandate—Creation, Collaboration, and Commercialization—the pumps provide farmers with a sustainable alternative to costly fuel-powered irrigation, lowering costs, boosting yields, and improving rural livelihoods.
EVC/CEO Mr. Khalil Suleiman Halilu commended NEC’s resolution, describing it as “a strong vote of confidence in NASENI’s ability to boost food production, secure livelihoods, and advance the #RenewedHope Agenda.” He also thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his support in driving industrialization, technology transfer, and food security.
To ensure mass production and distribution, NEC directed the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Senator Abubakar Atiku Bagudu, to work out funding modalities for NASENI.
This endorsement strengthens NASENI’s role in delivering sustainable, indigenous technologies for national prosperity.
