President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Comrade Okpokwu Ogenyi as Zonal Secretary and Support Groups Coordinator for the North Central in the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council, in a move expected to strengthen the party’s grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

Ogenyi’s appointment places him at the centre of the APC’s strategy to coordinate and consolidate the activities of support groups across the six North Central states and deepen grassroots support for President Tinubu’s re-election bid.

A seasoned political mobiliser from Benue State, Ogenyi previously served as Senior Special Assistant to the APC National Chairman on Civil Society and Support Groups, where he was involved in coordinating various support organisations and strengthening their engagement with the party.

His appointment is also coming on the heels of his involvement in the Renewed Hope Network (TRN), where he led the technical team alongside diplomat Prof. Tunji John Asaolu in March 2026. The network was subsequently adopted by about 1,500 APC support groups as part of efforts to mobilise support for Tinubu’s 2027 ambition and strengthen structures at the polling-unit level.

In his new role, Ogenyi is expected to work closely with the Director-General of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, Senator Abdulaziz Yari, and the North Central Campaign Coordinator, Governor Umar Bago of Niger State, to coordinate support groups and expand the party’s grassroots mobilisation network across the zone.

The North Central zone comprises Benue, Kogi, Kwara, Nasarawa, Niger and Plateau states, making the effective coordination of support groups a significant component of the APC’s broader 2027 campaign strategy.

Political associates of Ogenyi described the appointment as a recognition of his loyalty, organisational capacity and years of grassroots political engagement, expressing confidence that he would deploy his networks and knowledge of the region’s political dynamics to advance the party’s interests.

The appointment further highlights the growing importance being attached by the APC to organised support groups as the party moves to consolidate its grassroots structures ahead of the 2027 presidential contest.

With the campaign machinery now taking shape, Ogenyi’s assignment is expected to focus on unifying support groups, strengthening grassroots structures and translating the Renewed Hope message into sustained mobilisation across the North Central zone.
