DAILY HOPE DEVOTIONAL: AUGUST 24 THE BELIEVER AND GOD SCRIPTURE: ROMANS 12: 1 – 2
The word “Believer” simply means one who believes in God and His Son Jesus Christ. A believer is one who has come into term with daily relationship with God, His Son Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit. A believer is one who does not have trust on any other powers but has completely trusted in God the Almighty for everything. The daily life of a believer should be seen fully devoted to God. Everything he or she has should be dedicated to God in worship and services. This explains why Apostle Paul says: “…offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God, this is your spiritual act of worship” (Rom. 12: 1 NIV).
We have had teaching on “bodies as living sacrifices” as not to settle for flashy dresses, not aiming at having modern wears, even buying good cars or electronic appliances. We have been told that our bodies have to be sacrificed to serving God while alive without any make ups to look good. This devotional subscribes to subjecting one’s bodies to be dedicated to commitments in doing God’s works, not living as one wants but as God wants; and conditioning the bodies to be sacrificially living for Him. This takes us to “Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed (Rom 12: 2). As believers, we are to live all life patterns that should please God. Our daily thinking and actions are to be guided with caution not to deliberately offend God.
Fact must be stated here, that offering our bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God must not end at living separated life and refusing to mingle with unbelievers. God wants to see us dedicating our services to serving human beings. Some Christians give their money, materials and properties to church needs for self-glorification. We are to give what we have to God’s works freely without weighing the value or how such will benefit us if we conserve it for ourselves. When it comes to serving God, who we are by title or statutes should not be valued more than God. We are not to behave negatively against God’s wish for us to serve one another because of His works. God should be all and all for us as Christians, whatever we have should be offered to God as His when on demand without thinking how it will come back to us. Let God have all you are, the beloved in the Lord.
