The Okam Development Forum (ODF), Abuja, has elected a new Executive Committee to steer the affairs of the association, with Chief Joseph O. Obekpa, the Ojema I of Orokam, emerging as Chairman.
The election took place during the Forum’s 269th meeting held in Abuja, where members unanimously endorsed the new leadership team for a new tenure in line with the constitution of the association.
The immediate past Executive Committee, led by Chief Emmanuel Owoicho Ameh, the Och’Obache I of Orokam, was formally dissolved after successfully completing its four-year tenure. Members of the Forum commended the outgoing leadership for its dedication, unity, and developmental contributions during its time in office.
In his inaugural address, Chief Obekpa expressed profound gratitude to members for the confidence reposed in him, describing his emergence as a call to service, responsibility, and collective progress.
“It is with deep humility and a profound sense of responsibility that I stand before you today. This mandate is not one I take lightly. It is a call to service and a call to collective progress,” he stated.
The new Chairman paid tribute to the founding fathers and past leaders of the Forum, noting that their sacrifices and commitment laid the foundation upon which the association continues to thrive.
Chief Obekpa reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to building a more united, progressive, and economically empowered Okam community both in Abuja and in their homeland.
According to him, the new leadership will prioritize financial discipline, transparency, impactful community projects, education, healthcare, welfare, and homeland security.
He disclosed that strategic committees have been constituted to drive the Forum’s developmental agenda. These include the Finance Committee, Project Committee, Education Committee, Health Committee, Homeland Security Committee, Welfare Committee, Investment Committee, and Membership/Strategy Committee.
Speaking on economic empowerment, Chief Obekpa explained that the Investment Committee would champion cooperative development, thrift systems, and homegrown insurance initiatives aimed at improving the economic wellbeing of members.
He also called on all members of the Forum to remain united and committed to the ideals of the association.
“The strength of Okam lies in our unity. Together, we will build a Forum that we can all be proud of,” he said.
The Chairman further pledged to lead with integrity, transparency, accountability, and inclusive leadership while remaining accessible to members and open to constructive ideas.
The event was attended by distinguished elders, respected members of the Forum, invited guests, and well-wishers who expressed optimism about the new leadership and the future of the association.
Chief Obekpa urged members to remain hopeful, purposeful, and united in their collective resolve to build a better future for the Okam people.
