Kwararafa Empire Mobilises Traditional Rulers for Regional Peace, Unity, Sets September 19 Summit
Akii’s three-day Nasarawa, Plateau tour targets security, cultural renewal and collective development

The Kwararafa Empire has intensified efforts to promote regional peace, cultural renewal and socio-economic development following a high-level three-day engagement by its Akii, Air Vice Marshal Monday Riku Morgan (Rtd), with prominent traditional rulers in Nasarawa and Plateau States.
The development was contained in a statement signed by Dr. Odatse-Peters Kelvin, Strategic Aide to the Akii, Kwararafa Empire, on August 13, 2026, at the conclusion of the Akii’s three-day courtesy tour of the two states.
The visit, which took place from August 10 to 12, 2026, focused on strengthening regional cohesion, addressing security challenges, fostering inter-ethnic harmony and exploring collaborative approaches to development across communities historically associated with the Kwararafa Empire.
During the tour, AVM Morgan held discussions with several paramount rulers, including HRM Alh. Dr. Ahmadu Aliyu Oga Onawo, Andoma of Doma, Nasarawa State; HRM Miskoom Martin Muduutrie Shaldas III, Lon-Gamai of Shendam, Plateau State; HRM Nde Jika Golit, Ngolon-Gas of Pankshin/Kanke, Plateau State; and HRM John Putmang Hires, Mishkaham Mwaghavul, Plateau State.
According to the statement, the engagements were designed to revive historical consciousness among the Kwararafa people while positioning the empire as a stronger voice in contemporary national conversations on peacebuilding, security, development and public policy.
The discussions reportedly centred on pressing regional security concerns and the need to strengthen cooperation among communities and traditional institutions.
The Akii also used the engagements to advance the strategic reinvention of the cultural and socio-political identity of the Kwararafa people, with emphasis on ensuring that their interests and perspectives remain relevant in contemporary national affairs.
The initiative, according to the statement, is intended to foster greater unity among communities while creating a framework through which traditional institutions and other stakeholders can work collectively to address common challenges.
A major outcome of the consultations was the agreement to convene a landmark summit of traditional rulers and other stakeholders of the Kwararafa Empire.
The summit is scheduled to hold on September 19, 2026, and is expected to bring together traditional rulers, intellectuals, thought leaders and other critical stakeholders to deliberate on the future direction of the empire.
The gathering is expected to provide a platform for developing a collective roadmap for peace, unity, development and greater participation in national affairs.
The statement described the proposed summit as an opportunity to translate the renewed engagements among traditional institutions into practical initiatives capable of contributing to regional stability and development.
The Kwararafa Empire expressed confidence that the experience and leadership of AVM Morgan would help drive the renewed regional initiative.
It described the retired Air Vice Marshal as a leader with the experience and patriotic commitment required to advance the vision of a more cohesive and development-oriented Kwararafa region.
The statement said the initiative was aimed at helping the Kwararafa Empire regain greater prominence while contributing positively to peace and stability in Nigeria.
The Akii’s tour and the planned September summit are therefore being positioned as part of a broader effort to strengthen traditional institutions as partners in peacebuilding, community development and national cohesion.
The statement concluded with prayers for the Aku-Uka of Wukari, General T.Y. Danjuma, the Kwararafa Empire and the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
