IGP Disu Strengthens Unity in Police Force as he Pioneers Interfaith Iftar, Lent Dinner

The Inspector-General of Police,  Olutunji Rilwan Disu has hosted a landmark interfaith Iftar and Lent dinner at the Force Headquarters, Abuja, bringing together police officers of diverse religious backgrounds in a rare demonstration of unity, tolerance, and shared institutional values.

 

The event, described as the first of its kind at the Force Headquarters, was aimed at fostering interfaith harmony within the Nigeria Police Force while reinforcing discipline, cohesion, and mutual respect among personnel.

 

Speaking during the gathering, IGP Disu highlighted the spiritual significance of both Ramadan and Lent, noting that “despite differences in faith and tradition, officers of the Nigeria Police Force are united by shared values of discipline, compassion, and devotion to duty.”

 

He further stressed that “religious harmony within the Force remains a foundation for professionalism and effective service delivery,” while urging officers to uphold the virtues associated with the sacred seasons.

 

The police chief also extended goodwill to Muslim faithful, stating that they should “embody the values of peace, tolerance, and selflessness associated with the period.”

 

Reassuring Nigerians of adequate security during the festive period, the IGP disclosed that “security has been significantly strengthened across all States of the Federation, with enhanced deployments, increased surveillance, and proactive measures emplaced across Commands and Formations to ensure a safe and peaceful environment throughout the festive period.”

 

The interfaith dinner underscores ongoing efforts by the police leadership to promote unity and inclusiveness within its ranks while enhancing public confidence in the Force.

 

In attendance were key stakeholders, including Senator Amos Yohanna of the Senate Committee on Police Affairs; Honourable Jafar Yakubu of the House Committee on Police Affairs; President of the Police Officers’ Wives Association, Oluwafumilola Fisu Executive Secretary of the Nigeria Police Trust Fund, Mohammed Sheidu ;retired Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Hakeem Odumosu; and Professor Iman Musa of the Ansar-ud-Deen Society of Nigeria, Abuja Branch, among others.
