2027: Peter Obi Can’t Win Through Isolated Regional Support Alone- NDI-ABAT

The Ndigbo for Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu 2027 Forum (NDI-ABAT) has stated that the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, cannot defeat President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 election.
The organisation urged the former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, to recognise the prevailing national circumstances and avoid engaging in political calculations that, according to the organisation, may not serve the long-term strategic interests of Ndigbo and the Southeast region.
NDI-ABAT stated that the forthcoming 2027 presidential election will be determined by the strength of national political structures, broad-based acceptance, grassroots mobilisation, coalition building, and the ability of candidates to secure the confidence of Nigerians across the federation.
The organisation maintained that presidential contests in Nigeria have historically been won through extensive national alliances and not through isolated regional support alone.
The forum asserted that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has continued to strengthen his national political presence through governance initiatives, strategic engagements, and partnerships across different parts of Nigeria.
NDI-ABAT believes that these factors give the President a significant advantage as the country approaches another presidential election cycle.
According to NDI-ABAT, Peter Obi’s political ambition faces considerable obstacles in achieving nationwide dominance, particularly in building the broad political coalition required for victory at the presidential level.
The organisation argued that Nigerians will carefully examine the experience, national acceptance, political capacity, and policy direction of all presidential contenders before making their decision in 2027.
NDI-ABAT further cautioned that the political future of Ndigbo must not be reduced to emotional sentiments or temporary political calculations.
The organisation insisted that the Southeast must pursue a strategic political path that guarantees inclusion, development, national relevance, and stronger participation in Nigeria’s democratic process.
This was contained in a statement issued on Friday by the group’s National Coordinator, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, and Deputy National Coordinator, Amb. Sunday Ude, and made available to newsmen.
The forum emphasised that history remains a constant reminder that successful presidential campaigns are built on nationwide cooperation, credible structures, effective mobilisation, and enduring relationships across political, ethnic, and regional boundaries.
NDI-ABAT, therefore, maintained that political decisions affecting Ndigbo must always be guided by a careful assessment of national realities and long-term benefits.
“NDI-ABAT also states that its commitment remains focused on mobilising support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu through lawful democratic engagement, constructive advocacy, and grassroots participation ahead of the 2027 Presidential Election.
“The Ndigbo for Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu 2027 Forum hereby informs the general public, distinguished guests, stakeholders, and invited participants that the Asaba Igbo Summit, earlier scheduled for Monday, August 31, 2026, has been postponed to a new date in September 2026.
“The decision to adjust the date of the summit was reached after thorough consideration to allow for improved coordination, wider participation, and a more impactful engagement that reflects the importance and objectives of the gathering.
“NDI-ABAT sincerely regrets any inconvenience caused by the slight change of date and appreciates the patience, understanding, and commitment of all distinguished guests, partners, and supporters who have continued to identify with the vision of the organisation.
“The forum also acknowledges its strategic collaboration with the City Boy Movement, describing the partnership as a significant political development aimed at strengthening grassroots mobilisation, expanding engagement, and promoting greater participation among Igbo communities across Nigeria.
“NDI-ABAT will formally announce the new date for the Asaba Igbo Summit next week, alongside the unveiling of its four-month strategic mobilisation programmes designed to deepen political awareness, strengthen community engagement, and advance its objectives ahead of the 2027 Presidential Election,” the group said.
The organisation said it remains committed to responsible political advocacy, democratic values, national unity, and the pursuit of a stronger partnership between Ndigbo and the Nigerian state.
