Today’s devotional dwells on those who respond negatively to not seeing the results of their gifts, talents, acquired knowledge etc. There are many dead already, who gave all up when what they know they are made of could not bring up good results early enough. This devotional pitches on two illustrations to drive home the points under discussion here. First is about an Artist called Vincent Van Gogh. He was one of the renaissance sculptor and a Painter. He discovered that none of his sculptural pieces passed for classical works. One day, he was to paint his portrait using mirrors. He positioned the mirrors and began to work on his face. Several attempts did not give him the true representation of himself. With anger, he cut off one of his ears, bandaged the ear and molded himself. After his death the portrait without bear became a classical work. It was sold for about $81 million in 2017. Dollars by an art curator He became a celebrity posthumously.

Second illustration is about a man called Antonio Vivaldi, an Italian composer, born in 1678, he was credited for composing a four violin concertos (a four-part masterpiece) called “The Four Seasons” in 1723. These concertos remained largely forgotten from the 1723 till about 1926; about 200 years after. Since the 1926, these concertos have become favorite musical instrument with diverse harmonies and melodies used in concerts and recordings. What these illustrations translate is that, God know the time for our becoming celebrities or achievers. Christians are to be calm doing what they know best to do, awaiting when God’s time for them will surface. God will always bring us to our lifelines if we wait on Him. The worldly people kill to make themselves known. But those who knows the God they serve allow the right time for God to announce them.

The greatest harm to do to ourselves is attempting to fit God into our boxes. We often want God to respond to what we want at the very time we want it. God cannot do things for us when we want it and how we want it. Many of us usually fill God has forgotten us forever like King David (Psa. 13: 1). The major ways a desperate individual ruins his or her life is pushing up self when not yet proper. Many of us have killed our glorious days to be announced by desperation. Many of us had allowed our good ambitions die after waiting a while. But not Job. He lived by receptive attitude. He assured himself to wait until his change will come (Job 14: 14). Only God knows when the rightful and useful time for us will come. The beloved in Christ, please wait on God. He will certainly make you great. Your gifts will announce you soon.

PRAYER:

ALMIGTHY GOD, I have subjected myself to prolonged anxiety over failures in life. Today I learnt my efforts are never in vain. Grant me the receptive mind to wait for your time for my life. Amen.
