The Anambra State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has assured residents and voters of a peaceful, well-coordinated, and violence-free 2025 governorship election in the state, reaffirming its full readiness and commitment to secured and non- violence that will ensure that Anambrians exercise their franchise and credible poll.
Speaking during an interview, the Head of Media and Tactical Operations of the Command, Superintendent of Corps Okadibo Edwin, disclosed that the NSCDC, under the leadership of the State Commandant, Mr. Maku Olatunde, has made comprehensive security preparations in line with the operational order of the Commandant General, Prof. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, mni, OFR.
“The command is fully prepared for the election. Our Commandant General has ordered the deployment of 10,000 officers and men drawn from various state commands, tactical squads, and composite units for this election,” Okadibo stated.
“We have perfected our deployment, and every personnel knows their role and responsibility in ensuring a peaceful and credible election.”
According to him, no fewer than 500 officers and men will be stationed in each of the 21 local government areas of the state to provide adequate coverage and quick response to any security situation.
Okadibo commended the proactive leadership of Commandant Maku Olatunde, noting that his strategic coordination and emphasis on inter-agency collaboration have strengthened the security architecture in Anambra ahead of the elections.
He highlighted Maku’s focus on intelligence gathering, training on electoral conduct, and synergy with sister security agencies as key factors driving the NSCDC’s operational efficiency.
“Under the leadership of Commandant Maku Olatunde, we have maintained a robust synergy with all other security agencies the Police, Immigration, and others. We have achieved an inter-agency harmony that is rare in other states,” Okadibo said.
“For this election, you will notice that all services are working like one family. There is no room for rivalry, only cooperation to ensure a peaceful election.”
Okadibo issued a stern warning to anyone planning to disrupt the electoral process through thuggery or violence.
“I will advise them to have a rethink. The arm of the law is waiting for them. If they take the law into their own hands, the power of the law will catch up with them,” he warned.
He also reassured voters that all identified flashpoints and vulnerable areas have been mapped and secured through joint security efforts.
Addressing concerns about possible compromise among personnel, Okadibo emphasized that officers have been adequately trained on code of conduct, professionalism, and electoral neutrality.
“Our men have been trained to be polite and professional. We have no fear because NSCDC personnel are disciplined and mission-focused. We expect them to carry out their duties with integrity and patriotism,” he affirmed.
He further called on the public to come out en masse and exercise their franchise without fear, assuring that there is no cause for alarm.
“All the security service commandants met with the Commissioner of Police in charge of the election, and we collectively agreed on working together for peace. Anambra will witness a safe, credible, and peaceful election,” he concluded.
With its strong leadership under Commandant Maku Olatunde, enhanced tactical coordination, and collaboration with sister agencies, the Anambra NSCDC Command stands as a key pillar in ensuring that the 2025 governorship election is conducted in an atmosphere of peace, order, and public confidence.
