The Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) Department of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), in collaboration with the Nigerian Fire Service, conducted a fire drill at the Corporate Headquarters in Abuja to assess staff responses to emergency evacuation procedures during fire incidents.

The exercise, which took place on Tuesday, 28th April 2026, began with the activation of the fire alarm system, prompting TCN staff, Federal Ministry of Power personnel, and visitors to evacuate the building to the designated muster point as part of a simulation aimed at testing emergency preparedness.

Addressing staff after the exercise, the General Manager, HSE, Engr. Ahmed Rufai Ibrahim, described the drill as successful and commended the prompt response of staff, visitors, management, and fire service personnel. He noted that the exercise marked a significant step in strengthening emergency preparedness at the Headquarters.

Also speaking during the exercise, the Principal Manager (Fire Safety) in TCN, Mr Monday Johnson, commended staff on the orderly evacuation and called for regular drills to sustain awareness and readiness.

A representative of the Nigerian Fire Service, Kolade John, stated that the drill was a simulation and emphasised the importance of familiarity with evacuation procedures in public buildings. He noted that fire incidents can occur at any time and underscored the need for constant preparedness.

The exercise underscores TCN’s commitment to ensuring a safe working environment and enhancing staff skills for effective emergency response.
