Ebonyi Factional ADC Elects Atiku Presidential Candidate, Votes Out Amaechi

Former Vice President has recorded a resounding victory in the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential primary election in Ebonyi State, defeating former Rivers State Governor and fellow aspirant in the race for the party’s presidential ticket ahead of the 2027 general election.
The factional primary election was conducted across the 171 political wards in the 13 local government areas of Ebonyi State, with party members participating in the exercise to choose their preferred presidential candidate.
Declaring the result at the collation centre at Preston Hotel, the Chairman of the Ebonyi State Presidential Primary Election Committee and ADC National Vice Chairman (Diaspora), Fred Onwe, announced that Atiku secured 15,300 votes to emerge winner of the statewide poll.
According to the official results, Amaechi garnered 2,200 votes, while Hayatuddeen polled 200 votes.
Onwe disclosed that the party registered a total of 18,891 voters for the exercise across the state, while 17,700 members were accredited to participate in the election.
“Consequent upon the outcome of the election, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, having scored the highest number of votes cast, is hereby declared winner of the ADC presidential primary election in Ebonyi State,” he declared.
He congratulated the victorious candidate and other aspirants for their commitment to the democratic process and for conducting themselves peacefully throughout the exercise.
Speaking shortly after the declaration, the Ebonyi State Chairman of the ADC, Barrister Silas Joseph Onu, commended electoral officials and returning officers for their dedication in ensuring the successful conduct of the primary despite the heavy rainfall experienced in several parts of the state.
He noted that the officials demonstrated exceptional commitment by delivering election materials and collating results under challenging weather conditions, thereby contributing to a credible and peaceful exercise.
Onu also praised party members for their orderly conduct and unwavering support for the electoral process, describing the primary as a reflection of the ADC’s commitment to internal democracy.
The election formed part of the party’s nationwide presidential primary process aimed at selecting its candidate for the 2027 presidential election.
