The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has paid glowing tribute to fathers across Nigeria, describing them as critical pillars of family stability, social cohesion, and national development.
The commendation was contained in a statement issued by the Nigeria Police Force and signed by CSP Anietie Okokon Edem Iniedu, Force Public Relations Officer, on behalf of the IGP, to mark the 2026 Father’s Day celebration.
In the message, IGP Disu praised fathers for their sacrifices, dedication, and leadership in raising responsible children and strengthening the moral foundations necessary for building a peaceful and prosperous society.
According to the police chief, fathers play an indispensable role in instilling discipline, integrity, patriotism, hard work, and other values essential for nation-building.
“The sacrifices made daily by fathers in providing guidance, protection, and support for their families continue to strengthen the social fabric of society and contribute significantly to national progress,” Disu stated.
The IGP particularly acknowledged police officers who continue to balance the demands of law enforcement with their responsibilities as fathers and family leaders.
He noted that many officers spend long hours away from home while safeguarding lives and property, yet remain committed to nurturing and supporting their families.
“The Inspector-General particularly salutes police officers who, despite the demanding nature of their responsibilities, continue to serve as dedicated fathers and guardians within their families,” the statement said.
Disu emphasized that the contributions of fathers extend beyond the home, noting that their commitment to raising responsible citizens helps foster social stability and national growth.
As Nigerians joined the rest of the world in celebrating Father’s Day, the IGP urged citizens to recognize and appreciate the sacrifices and enduring influence of fathers in society.
“He wishes all fathers good health, strength, wisdom, and fulfilment, while urging Nigerians to honour and appreciate the sacrifices, commitment, and enduring influence of fathers whose efforts contribute immensely to the development of a safer, stronger, and more prosperous Nigeria,” the statement added.
The police chief also reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to protecting lives and property, strengthening community partnerships, and supporting initiatives that promote family values, social harmony, and national development.
“Happy Father’s Day to all fathers across the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” the IGP declared.
The Nigeria Police Force noted that strong family values remain a cornerstone of national peace and development, stressing that fathers continue to play a vital role in shaping future generations and sustaining the country’s social and moral fabric.
