In a concerning turn of events, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has sounded the alarm over reported attacks on its members and disruptions to political gatherings across various regions of the country.

They warn that ongoing political violence and voter intimidation could seriously hinder citizens’ ability to engage freely in the upcoming 2027 general elections.

These alarming claims were brought to light by the ADC’s National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, during a press conference held in Abuja in September 2026.

He addressed the pressing issues of political violence, voter intimidation, and the overall climate surrounding the 2027 elections.

Abdullahi detailed that the party has been keeping track of incidents that include assaults on political meetings, vandalism of party property, attacks on political participants, and threats linked to individuals’ political preferences from July 2025 to September 2026.

These incidents he said span several states, including Kaduna, Kebbi, Ekiti, Cross River, Rivers, Edo, Osun, Kogi, and Enugu.

“Every Nigerian should have the freedom to support the political party of their choice. Likewise, every registered political party has the right to organize, hold meetings, and carry out its lawful activities.”

Abdullahi emphasized, stressing that security agencies must uphold the law impartially, regardless of political ties. He pointed to a specific incident in February 2026, where the party’s secretariat in Benin City, Edo State, was attacked during a political event, alongside reports of gunfire at the home of former Governor John Odigie-Oyegun, where political leaders had convened.

The Edo State Police Command has acknowledged the attack on the secretariat, confirmed the damage at the former governor’s residence, and has initiated an investigation. He said.

Additionally, Abdullahi in his briefing claimed that an ADC member named Kamadioye was tragically Un-life just three days before the press conference while party members were preparing for a political meeting in the Emilaghan community, Ward 1, Abua/Odual Local Government Area of Rivers State.
