NEMA AOO CONDUCTS ON-THE-SPOT ASSESSMENT OF FLOOD-RAVAGED COMMUNITIES IN KOGI LGA OF KOGI STATE

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Abuja Operations Office (AOO), has conducted an on-the-spot assessment of flood-affected communities in Kogi Local Government Area of Kogi State to ascertain the level of impact and identify immediate humanitarian needs.
The assessment according to a media report e-signed by Press Unit, NEMA AOO the team carried out an advocacy visit to the Ohimege of Koton Karfe, Dr. Salihu Akawu Saidu, as part of efforts to strengthen collaboration with traditional institutions and community stakeholders in addressing the challenges posed by the flood disaster.
The Kogi State Emergency Management Agency (KOSEMA) team was led by the Special Adviser to the Governor of Kogi State on Emergency Management, Hon. Muhammed Shuaibu.
During the exercise, the team visited several flood-ravaged communities, including Odaki, Ukwo, Kpokpozi, and Bass B, where they assessed the extent of damage to lives, livelihoods, infrastructure, and other critical areas affected by the disaster.
The assessment involved key stakeholders, including officials from NEMA, KOSEMA, the Nigerian Red Cross Society, Local Emergency Management Committees (LEMCs), and the New Partnership for Africa’s Development Humanitarian Emergency Assistance Programme (N-HYPERDEC).
The collaborative assessment is aimed at providing accurate situation reports, enhancing coordination among emergency response agencies, and ensuring that appropriate interventions are delivered to affected communities.
NEMA reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with state governments, traditional rulers, community leaders, and humanitarian partners to strengthen disaster preparedness, response, and recovery efforts across the country.
