DAILY HOPE DEVOTIONAL: JULY 23 WORTHLESSNESS OF MAN’S HELP (3) SCRIPTURE: 2 Kings 24: 6 – 14, 16 – 17; Psalms 33: 12

Over many centuries past, different nations have gone round and round seeking other nations who could help them out of troubles. Nations who felt strong enough to rescue others entered into agreements of rescue mission of the troubled nations. Ordinarily, the world should have been freed of war against wars. We have histories of how allied forces have fought the Israelites in the Old Testament. There are several times Americans or the Britons have been involved in helping other nations to resolve their internal crisis. French, Japan, China, India and many others have had such helps or gone to help others. The Black Africans have gone to help fight for other African nations due to such crisis.

This devotional still supports the claim that, the more the nations reject God as their God, the deeper their internal problems will continue unresolved. As long as the world leaders are rebelling against God and rejecting Him, mankind problems will be on the increase. The Bible says: “Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord, the people whom He has chosen as His inheritance” (Psa. 33: 12 NKJV). This implies that, any nation which says God is not her Lord will hardly be blessed. Many nations of antiquity are not in existence today as a result of their rejecting God. Where is Babylonians and Edomites today? Sodom and Gomorrah followed suit? During the day of King Jehoiakim as King of Jerusalem, he made the people to reject God. God sent the Babylonians into Jerusalem, conquered and captured the people. They took all the able bodied men, about 10,000 of them. They also exiled about 7000 of Jerusalem’s best troops and about 1000 craftsmen and artisans (2 Kings 24: 6 – 14, 16 – 17).

Many nations have come out openly these days, reviling people of God and expanded themselves across the borders of God’s people. People of Moab and Ammon did this to God’s people. For this reason, God said “They will be Destroyed, destroyed as completely as Sodom and Gomorrah. Their lands will become a place of stinging nettles, salt pits and eternal desolation and they will receive the wages of their pride…” (Zechariah 2: 8 – 10 (Africa Study Bible). Today, many nations are against God’s people and, they are getting more prepared to reject God the more. The truth is that; God has not yet finished with the present world in view of the evils besieging us from every angle. We all must be ready to turn back to Him. No one should make light of this devotional. We must run, run, and run back to God!

PRAYER:

BLESSED FATHER, we will never stop pleading for your mercy upon us until your wrath is taken off our shoulders. Have mercy on the entire world Oh God, in Jesus name.
