Group Condemns Obaseki Over “Do or Die” Statement, Accuses PDP of Attempting to Cripple Edo State
In a disturbing development at yesterday’s PDP mega rally, Governor Godwin Obaseki declared the upcoming Edo gubernatorial election a “do or die” affair. This provocative statement has drawn widespread condemnation from various quarters, including a notable Benin-based organization.
The Edo South Patriotic Forum (ESPF), a leading advocacy group committed to the welfare and stability of Edo State, has come out strongly against Obaseki’s inflammatory remarks. The ESPF, under the leadership of its President, Chief Emmanuel Aigbe, has condemned the Governor’s rhetoric as not only irresponsible but dangerous.
Chief Aigbe highlighted the severe consequences of such reckless statements. “Governor Obaseki’s words are more than just inflammatory—they are a call to arms that could destabilize our community and incite violence,” he stated. “Such rhetoric undermines the democratic process and threatens the peace and security of our state.”
The ESPF warns that Obaseki’s statements could have several dire consequences:
1. Escalation of Violence: The “do or die” language could embolden extremist factions and lead to increased political violence, putting innocent lives at risk.
2. Intimidation of Voters: The threat of violence could intimidate voters, disenfranchising them and undermining the fairness of the election.
3. Disruption of Peace: Reckless rhetoric could fuel tensions and unrest, disrupting daily life and destabilizing the state’s socio-political environment.
The ESPF also expressed concern that the PDP, by endorsing such rhetoric, might be attempting to cripple the state’s democratic processes. The group believes that this strategy aims to create chaos and manipulate the electoral outcome through fear and intimidation rather than through legitimate means.
In response to these developments, the ESPF is calling for immediate action to ensure the safety and security of the Edo people. They urge all stakeholders to denounce such dangerous rhetoric and work towards a peaceful and fair electoral process.
Chief Emmanuel Aigbe and the ESPF remain steadfast in their commitment to promoting peace and ensuring that the rights of every Edo citizen are protected during this critical election period.
