Ado LGC Chairman Champions Peace and Unity at Ezza Ezekunna Benue Development Association Annual Meeting

The Executive Chairman of Ado Local Government Council, Engr. Oche Sunday Oche has delivered a powerful message of peace and unity at the Ezza-EzeKunna Benue State Development Association’s annual meeting, 4th-anniversary celebration, and developmental support fundraising event.

The gathering, held at Idelle Primary School Oju, brought together community leaders, youth, and women’s groups from the Ezza communities in Ado and Oju Local Government Councils respectively.

Hon. Oche  according to a press statement e-sign by his Chief  Pres Secretary, Samson Otokpa stressed the vital role of peace as a cornerstone for sustainable development, urging attendees to foster cooperation and mutual understanding. He highlighted the importance of unity, stating, “Unity is our strength,” and called for collaborative efforts towards common goals. He emphasized the need for dialogue over conflict, referencing the phrase “jaw-jaw rather than war-war.”

Addressing a recent violent incident between the Effium and Ezza communities, Hon. Oche condemned the violence and reiterated his administration’s zero-tolerance policy towards such acts. He urged both communities to embrace peace and reconciliation, focusing on their shared humanity and working to heal past wounds.

The Chairman also extended a call for support for Governor Fr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia’s administration, emphasizing the Governor’s crucial role in promoting peace and development across the state. He highlighted the government’s commitment to supporting local craftsmen and women, particularly within the agro-allied industry, and announced plans to provide funding for SMEs.

Hon. Jackson Onminyi, Executive Chairman of Oju Local Council, and Chief Host of the event, pledged to build a primary health care center in Idelle Community and collaborate with Ado Local Government Council to address security challenges.

He promised to increase the numbers of polling units and to bring the polling units close to the people. He further said that he is in talks with his Ado Local Government counterparts to create restrictions to the movement of the Fulani herdsmen in order to prevent destruction of their source of livelihood.

Hon. Mrs. Perpetual Nkechi Okafor, President of the Ezza-EzeKunna Benue Development Association, also spoke, highlighting the indiscriminate nature of violence and urging unity despite linguistic differences. She expressed gratitude for the attendance and financial support provided by the Chairmen of Oju and Ado Local Government Councils. She praised their commitment to the community and expressed hope for continued peace and unity. She also extended her appreciation to the attendees and wished them safe travels.

Several dignitaries attended the event, including the Director General Services and Administration, Comrade Orokpo Pius Onah; the Chief Protocol Officer and Council Recorder, Mr. Gowon Obande, the Security Secretary of Ado Local Government, Mr. Vincent Amna (KSM); and the Catholic Priest, Rev. Fr. Gabriel Enorgu of the Abakiliki Diocese, who serves as President and Chairman of the Ezza Unions Board of Trustees (BOT).
