

UN AGENDA 2030:AMB. NWACHUKWU, DIRECTOR SDG NATL’ STUDENTS COUNCIL EXTOLS DG, PEBEC FOR HOSTING A SUCCESSFUL FOREIGN DIRECT INVESTORS ROUNDTABLE
The Director, Sustainable Development Goals- National Students Council, Office Of the Senior Special Assistant to the President of Nigeria on Students Engagement, Amb Timothy Nwachukwu, has praised Princess Zahrah Mustapha-Audu,, the Director General, Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council (PEBEC) for organizing a successful Second Foreign Direct Investors Roundtable and the launch of Nigeria’s Regulatory Impact Analysis (RIA) Framework at the State House in Abuja.
The event brought together over 100 existing multinational corporations in Nigeria, including American Business Council, Nigeria Indonesia Chamber of commerce, China Chamber of Commerce, Google, Dow Chemical, Microsoft, the Nigerian-French Chamber of Commerce, the Nigerian-American Chamber of Commerce, the Euro Chamber of Commerce, the Chinese Corporate group in Nigeria, State Governors, Honourable Ministers and Heads of Government Agencies and Parastatals to discuss ways of improving the business environment in Nigeria to attract more foreign direct investment with the Launch of the Regulatory Impact Analysis Framework which provides a structured approach for government agencies to assess the potential impacts of new or existing regulations on businesses and the economy.
In a statement, Amb Timothy Nwachukwu commended Princess Zahrah Mustapha-Audu and the PEBEC team for their efforts in implementing critical reforms that have improved Nigeria’s ranking in the World Bank’s Ease of Doing Business Index. He expressed optimism that the RIA Framework, when fully implemented, would further enhance the business environment by ensuring that regulations are evidence-based, citizen-centric and promote economic growth.
The SDG Director emphasized the importance of creating an enabling environment for businesses to thrive, given the crucial role of the private sector in achieving the SDGs, especially goals 8 and 9 which focus on promoting inclusive and sustainable economic growth and industry, innovation and infrastructure respectively. He highlighted the need for sustained collaboration between the government and private sector to address the country’s development challenges.
Amb Nwachukwu urged the PEBEC and other government agencies to continue engaging with stakeholders, including the youth, to ensure that their perspectives are considered in policy making. He reiterated the SDG Council’s commitment to mobilizing young people to support national efforts to achieve the SDGs.
The event featured Keynote speech from the Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, Dr. Cordosso, goodwill messages from State Governors, questions and answers sessions where participants shared experiences, challenges and recommendations for improving the business environment in Nigeria. The RIA Framework and other PEBEC initiatives were presented as part of the Federal Government’s efforts to create an enabling business environment to attract investments, create jobs and promote economic growth and development in Nigeria.
