

Senate Reaffirms Readiness to Support NPTF and Ministry of Police Affairs

The Nigerian Senate has reaffirmed it’s commitment to supporting the Nigeria Police Trust Fund(NPTF) and the Ministry of Police Affairs in enhancing the security of lives and property in the country.
Reaffirming the support of the Senate yesterday during a committee session for the hearing of the Year 2025 Budget Defence of the Nigeria Police Trust Fund (NPTF), the Senate Committee Chairman on Police Affairs, Sen. Abdulhamid Malam Madori Ahmed, representing Jigawa North-East recalled the statutory mandate of the NPTF as supporting the development of a well-trained, well-equipped, and highly motivated Nigeria Police Force, capable of providing the security of the nation, and reaffirms the committee’s readiness to support the NPTF and the Ministry of Police Affairs through appropriate legislative interventions whenever and wherever the need arises.
Said support for NPTF is urgently requires to enhance their preparedness to effectively discharge their duties of protecting lives and properties of the people of Nigeria.
“Against this background, I encourage everyone present to actively participate by sharing your thoughts and insights, which will assist the Committee in ensuring that the Budget adequately addresses the security challenges before us.
“Without taking much of our time, I would like to remind us all that the security of lives and property is a shared responsibility. Accordingly, the Committee reaffirms its readiness to support the NPTF and the Ministry of Police Affairs through appropriate legislative interventions whenever and wherever the need arises. To this end, the Committee is committed to giving this Budget an accelerated legislative process to ensure its prompt passage and transmission for implementation.
“I am confident that we will have a productive and impactful deliberation that will strengthen the Nigeria Police Force in addressing the pressing security challenges facing our country.”
The Executive Secretary, NPTF Femi Mohammed Sheidu, while addressing journalist immediately after the committee session when asked if there is any specific area where he needs the intervention of Senate, said the agency needs the intervention of Senate in addressing the multiple litigation being faced by the agency, adding that the multiple litigation has denied the agency access to fund that would’ve been used in executing the agency’s mandate to train and equip the police to function better.
He further revealed his plan to form strategic partnership and alliances with sister agencies and others to solving the agency’s financial constraints.
