The Apex Igbo Sociocultural Organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo has stated that the recent adoption of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) by the leaders of Nigeria’s Opposition Coalition was not merely a political maneuvering but a wake-up call for the Tinubu led administration to confront the persistent economic woes, escalating poverty, rampant hunger, and unresolved security challenges that are bedevilling nation.
The Igbo body emphasized that the Coalition’s endorsement of the ADC achieved a remarkable milestone within the nation ‘s political arena as it has effectively halted Nigeria’s alarming drift towards an unhealthy one-party system.
Disclosing this in a statement, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, Deputy President General, Ohanaeze Ndigbo and Chief Thompson Ohia, National Spokesman
Ohanaeze Ndigbo noted that the emergence of the coalition “rendered those crisis merchants—individuals once hired to destabilize Nigeria’s opposition parties such as the PDP, LP, SDP, and APGA—obsolete, as their benefactors grow increasingly anxious about their political futures in the face of the ADC’s emergence as a formidable contender and a genuine threat to the status quo.”
According to the statement, “It is paramount that the Federal Government cease its “sleep on the bicycle” approach, abandoning the nonchalant and indifferent lens through which it has viewed the plight of ordinary Nigerians. The government must awaken from its metaphorical slumber, taking decisive actions to accelerate Nigeria’s economic recovery.
“President Tinubu is now firmly placed on notice. It is imperative that he seeks redemptive steps toward revitalizing the economy and engages in earnest reflection regarding whether his government’s unpopular policies have had any positive effects on the Nigerian citizenry.
“The in efficacy of certain ministers responsible for the dismal performances observed in critical sectors—including the economy, security, agriculture, health, and rural development—must be addressed as we approach August 2025, marking two years since the appointments of his Cabinet Ministers.
“The unspeakable truth remains: while we commend the progress made in road infrastructure and revolutionary policies within the Federal Capital Territory spearheaded by Ministers David Umahi and Nyesom Wike, it is now mandatory for President Tinubu to reevaluate his Cabinet.
“He must prioritize clinical reforms and policies driven by esteemed Nigerian economists, experts, and technocrats, discarding political loyalty that no longer serves the interests of the nation. Such recalibration is vital for restoring public confidence and salvaging the integrity of his administration.
“Furthermore, President Tinubu must view the ADC’s ambitious plans to unseat him as an unintended blessing—an opportunity to recalibrate his strategies and refocus his efforts. The time for taking Nigerians for granted has long since passed; continued neglect of their needs can only lead to severe consequences for his administration.
“It is imperative to be forthright: while the ADC may present itself as a viable opposition, it is essential to recognize that many of its coalition leaders bear direct responsibility for the overwhelming suffering endured by Nigerians under APC governance over the last decade. Reports indicate that approximately 80% of ADC coalition leaders are individuals of questionable character, primarily interested in state capture—leveraging the Federal Government’s inadequacies for personal gain.
“The reality confronting President Tinubu is disconcerting and stark. Disturbing intelligence suggests that several state governors may betray his 2027 re-election aspirations by considering a shift of allegiance to the ADC, driven by the looming calamity that threatens the ruling APC.
“Further reports indicate that some Northern governors are engaged in secretive discussions with the ADC and are facing increasing pressure from Northern political leaders and traditional rulers to abandon the APC. They are closely monitoring the presidency’s anxiety and the implications of the Opposition Coalition’s endorsement of ADC, which seeks to challenge President Tinubu’s re-election ambitions.
“The Northern region stands poised to undermine his political interests should he decide to replace his Vice President, Kashim Shettima, with another Northern nominee for the upcoming elections.
“Now is the time for President Tinubu to confront his shortcomings. The current trajectory is foreboding, suggesting dire consequences should he fail to adjust his strategies in a timely manner. The moment for decisive action is nigh.”
