In a bold stride toward revitalizing Nigeria’s healthcare system, the Federal Government on Thursday commissioned a cutting-edge Multi-Specialty Complex alongside other landmark infrastructure at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Keffi. The commissioning marks a significant advancement in tertiary healthcare delivery in the North Central region and is aligned with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

The event was officiated by the Honourable Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Iziaq Adekunle Salako, and the Deputy Governor of Nasarawa State, Dr. Emmanuel Akabe, who represented the Executive Governor. The newly unveiled facilities include a state-of-the-art Multi-Specialty Clinic Complex housing Ophthalmology, ENT, Dental, and Physiotherapy units, as well as a solar-powered borehole and a high-tech atmospheric distilled water generator donated by the Government of Japan.

Dr. Salako in his remark according to a press release e-signed by the ministry’s  Head, Information and Public Relations, Alaba Balogun  emphasized that the new infrastructure reflects the administration’s commitment to expanding specialist healthcare services and modernizing health systems with a focus on sustainability.

“This facility addresses the growing demand for specialized services in Keffi and its surroundings. It also reflects our broader agenda to improve population health outcomes and drive energy-efficient healthcare delivery,” Dr. Salako stated.

He further revealed that a National Stakeholders Dialogue on Power in the Health Sector is scheduled for later this month to address the persistent challenge of energy poverty in health institutions.

Representing the state government, Deputy Governor Akabe praised the Federal Government’s support and announced the approval of the takeover of Lafia’s Specialist Hospital—now designated as a federal teaching hospital. He also urged the swift federal assumption of salary responsibilities.

“FMC Keffi serves over 13 states due to its strategic location. These upgrades are not just welcome—they are essential,” Dr. Akabe noted.

Chief Medical Director of FMC Keffi, Dr. Yahaya Baba Adamu, expressed gratitude for the sustained governmental backing and outlined key ongoing projects, including a 116-bed lying-in ward, neuropsychiatric complex, public health building, trauma center, and the hospital’s first-ever residential quarters. A cutting-edge radiodiagnostic center is also in the works to reduce the burden of external referrals for MRI and advanced imaging services.

Dr. Adamu appealed for improved staff welfare, payment of promotion arrears, and continued investment in training to ensure the retention of skilled personnel.

The event drew a distinguished gathering of federal and state dignitaries, traditional leaders, representatives of the Emir of Keffi, members of the hospital board, and officials from the Japanese embassy.

With ever-increasing patient inflow and pressure on services, stakeholders affirmed that the new developments signify a transformative leap for FMC Keffi, reinforcing the Federal Government’s dedication to achieving Universal Health Coverage for all Nigerians.
