“I Rejected N10bn, Three Ministerial Slots to Save Democracy” – Ralph Nwosu Opens Up on ADC Coalition Pressure
By Pan Afric Reporters Abuja Abuja, Nigeria – July 30, 2025
In a startling revelation that underscores the high-stakes political maneuvering in Nigeria, Dr. Ralph Nwosu, the immediate past Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has disclosed that he turned down offers of N10 billion and three ministerial appointments in a bid to block the party from becoming the nucleus of a major opposition coalition.
Speaking at a press briefing tagged “Coalition for ADC,” Nwosu said the attempted inducement was part of a broader effort to undermine multiparty democracy and nudge Nigeria toward a one-party state.
“I was offered three ministerial slots and N10bn to decline the use of ADC as a coalition party,” Nwosu stated. “But I refused because I do not want Nigeria to become a one-party state.”
The seasoned politician revealed that close allies urged him not to relinquish his post as National Chairman, but he stood firm, guided by what he called a “Nigeria First” principle.
“Today, I am happy as a fulfilled man who is paying the price for a better Nigeria,” he added.
Nwosu’s remarks come just days after the ADC’s 99th National Executive Committee meeting in Abuja, where a new interim leadership, led by Senator David Mark and Rauf Aregbesola, was sworn in amid widespread calls for reform and renewal.
His testimony adds a dramatic layer to the unfolding political narrative in Nigeria, hinting at fierce behind-the-scenes battles over the future of the country’s democratic structure. As the ADC positions itself at the heart of a new opposition coalition, Nwosu’s principled stand is being hailed by party loyalists and democracy advocates alike as a symbol of resistance against authoritarian tendencies.
Observers say his revelations could fuel increased scrutiny into efforts to stifle political diversity ahead of the 2027 elections.
