Members of the Benue State House of Assembly have carried out an oversight inspection of the ongoing reconstruction of the Igumale-Agila road in Ado Local Government Area.

The delegation, led by Hon. Anthony Agom (Okpokwu State Constituency) and Hon. Jiji Samuel Shimapever (Logo State Constituency), was accompanied by the Chairman of Ado Local Government, Engr. Sunny Oche.

According to the lawmakers, the inspection formed part of the Assembly’s oversight function to ensure accountability and transparency in the use of public funds. They assessed the quality and pace of the project, as well as its alignment with the initial design, stressing the importance of efficiency and value for money in public infrastructure delivery.

Engr. Oche, while welcoming the legislators,  according to a press statement e-signed by his principal private secretary, Innocent Igelle expressed appreciation for their visit and described the road as a vital project for the people of Ado. He appealed to the Assembly to support additional road reconstruction requests linking Ado with Otukpo, Okpokwu, and Oju Local Government Areas, noting Governor Hyacinth Alia’s drive to turn Benue into a “construction site.”

The 31.5-kilometre Igumale-Agila road is one of three major road projects flagged off by Governor Alia, spanning a total of 126 kilometres. The project, valued at ₦19.3 billion, is jointly funded by the State Government (60%) and the Local Government (40%).

Observers say the initiative underscores the State Government’s commitment to boosting infrastructure in Benue South, while the Assembly’s inspection highlights its resolve to promote responsible governance, accountability, and prudent management of public funds.
