Police Restore Calm After Deadly Cult Clash in Ogidi, Launch Manhunt for Perpetrators

The Anambra State Police Command has restored calm in Ogidi, Idemili North Local Government Area, following a violent cult clash that left four people dead and fifteen others injured during a burial ceremony at Ezi Village on Thursday night.

According to a report e-signed by Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, suspected cultists invaded the event and opened fire on attendees. Police operatives from Ogidi Division, led by the Divisional Police Officer, swiftly responded to the distress call, secured the scene, and evacuated the victims to nearby hospitals for urgent treatment. Sixteen expended cartridges were recovered as evidence.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the attack was linked to a confrontation between rival cult groups.

Condemning the incident, the Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Ikioye Orutugu fwc MNIPS PhD, assured residents that the Command has launched a discreet investigation to identify, trace, and bring the perpetrators to justice. He reiterated the Police’s commitment to eradicating cult-related violence and other criminal activities in the State.

The Command appealed to residents to remain calm, vigilant, and supportive by reporting suspicious movements or persons to the nearest police formation.
