As Christians and Muslims across the country begin the sacred seasons of Lent and Ramadan, the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), FCT Council, Comrade Grace Ike, has called on Nigerians to embrace unity, sacrifice and national renewal.

In a goodwill message marking the commencement of the holy observances, Comrade Ike extended warm greetings to Christian and Muslim faithful in the Federal Capital Territory and across Nigeria, describing the periods as profound moments of spiritual reflection and moral rebirth.

She noted that Lent and Ramadan, characterised by fasting, prayer and deep introspection, serve as powerful reminders of enduring values such as discipline, compassion, sacrifice and love for humanity.

According to her, the twin spiritual seasons present a unique opportunity for Nigerians to draw closer to God, strengthen their moral convictions and recommit themselves to peaceful coexistence and national development.

“At a time when our nation yearns for unity, stability and progress, this holy season calls for fervent prayers for Nigeria, for our leaders and for sustained peace and security in the Federal Capital Territory and beyond,” she said.

The NUJ FCT Chairman emphasised the critical role of the media in promoting harmony and understanding in a diverse society, reaffirming the commitment of journalists to truth, fairness and responsible reportage.

“As journalists, we remain steadfast in our duty to uphold professional ethics and promote narratives that foster peace, tolerance and mutual respect among our people,” she stated.

Comrade Ike urged Nigerians to allow the sacred observances to inspire acts of kindness, generosity and reconciliation, stressing that collective sacrifice and sincere prayers could usher in renewed hope and greater prosperity for the nation.

On behalf of the NUJ FCT Council, she wished all Muslim and Christian faithful a spiritually fulfilling Ramadan and Lenten season, expressing optimism that the period would strengthen national unity and deepen faith across communities.
