Ado LG Chairman Bags Grassroots Women’s Development Award

The Executive Chairman of Ado Local Government Council, Hon. Engr. Sunny Oche, has been honoured with the Champion of Grassroots Women’s Development Award by Alia Generation Women World Wide in recognition of his administration’s sustained efforts toward women’s welfare, inclusion and economic empowerment at the grassroots.
The award was presented on February 20, 2026, at the Old Banquet Hall, Government House, Makurdi, Benue State, during a colourful ceremony attended by political leaders, women advocates and key stakeholders from across the state.
The Executive Governor of Benue State, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia (Ph.D), was represented at the event by the Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Alfred Emberga Berger.
Hon. Oche was present at the early stage of the programme, where he expressed appreciation to the organisers for the recognition accorded to his administration. However, due to prior official engagements, the Chairman excused himself from the ceremony to return to Ado Local Government Area to attend the Local Government APC Congress.
The award plaque was subsequently received on his behalf by Pastor Aboh Okibe.
The organisers said the honour reflects the Chairman’s deliberate policies and programmes aimed at strengthening women-focused initiatives, promoting inclusive governance and expanding economic opportunities for women and vulnerable groups within Ado Local Government Area.
Reacting to the recognition, the Ado Local Government Council in a media report e-signed by his principal secretary, Innocent Igelle described the award as a validation of ongoing efforts to drive sustainable grassroots development, particularly in empowering women as key drivers of community growth.
The Council further reaffirmed its commitment to deepening collaboration with women groups, community leaders and development partners to advance inclusive and transformative governance across the local government area.
