Kalu Hails Obasanjo at 89, Describes Him as “Towering Statesman and Champion of Democracy”

Deputy Speaker of the 10th House of Representatives, Benjamin Okezie Kalu has congratulated former President Olusegun Obasanjo on the occasion of his 89th birthday, describing the elder statesman as a visionary leader whose contributions to Nigeria’s democratic evolution remain historic and enduring.
In a congratulatory message e-signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Levinus Nwabughiogu on Thursday, Kalu praised Obasanjo’s remarkable legacy of leadership, noting that his courage and dedication to national service helped shape the country’s political landscape and strengthen democratic governance.
According to the Deputy Speaker, the former president’s role in transitioning Nigeria to civilian rule in 1979 remains a defining moment in the nation’s history, adding that his efforts in promoting peace, stability and economic development have earned him a revered place among Nigeria’s most respected leaders.
“Your selfless service, integrity, and commitment to Nigeria’s political and economic growth have inspired a generation of leaders,” Kalu said. “Your legacy continues to guide us towards a more perfect union where justice, equality and opportunity thrive.”
The Deputy Speaker also commended Obasanjo’s unwavering commitment to democratic ideals, saying his enduring influence continues to inspire leaders across the country.
“On this special day, I celebrate your life, achievements and enduring impact. Your steadfast dedication to democratic principles has sustained our great nation, and we are grateful. Thank you for your service, sir,” he added.
Kalu further prayed for God’s continued blessings upon the elder statesman, wishing him good health, peace and happiness as he marks the milestone birthday.
“May God continue to bless you with good health, happiness and peace as you celebrate this remarkable milestone,” he said.
