The Chief of Defence Staff, General OO Oluyede, has extended warm Eid El-Fitr greetings to personnel of the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN), urging them to uphold the virtues of discipline, unity, and resilience as the nation continues to confront evolving security challenges.
In a goodwill message marking the end of Ramadan, the CDS described the occasion as a time for deep reflection, gratitude, and renewed commitment to spiritual and moral values.
“It is with profound gratitude to the Almighty God that I felicitate with the officers, soldiers, ratings, airmen, airwomen and civilian staff of the Armed Forces of Nigeria on the joyous occasion of the 2026 Eid El-Fitr celebration,” he said, noting that the season “presents us with the opportunity to reflect on the spiritual lessons of Ramadan and to express our gratitude… for witnessing the end of this holy period.”
He emphasized that Ramadan embodies values such as “prayer, sacrifice, charity and self-discipline,” urging personnel to continue to uphold “the fear of God, honesty, tolerance, compassion, peace and mutual support” beyond the fasting period.
General Oluyede reaffirmed the military’s commitment to safeguarding Nigeria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, acknowledging the sacrifices made by troops across various theatres of operation.
“In defending our great country, some of our gallant heroes have paid the supreme price while others continue to bear the burden of injuries sustained in the line of duty. Their courage and selflessness will never be forgotten,” he stated.
The defence chief charged deployed troops to remain steadfast and professional, stressing the importance of synergy in tackling emerging threats.
“I urge all our troops… to remain disciplined, resilient, patriotic, and courageous in the discharge of their constitutional responsibilities,” he said, adding that “the evolving security environment requires that we consolidate joint operations… enhance our operational synergy, and maintain a professional posture.”
He also reassured personnel of the military’s commitment to their welfare, promising continued improvements in administrative support and operational capabilities.
“I also wish to assure our personnel that their welfare and well-being remain a priority… to create the conditions necessary for our personnel to perform their duties effectively while upholding the highest standards of professionalism,” he added.
General Oluyede called on Nigerians to support the Armed Forces, describing national security as a shared responsibility.
“The defence of our country is a collective responsibility that requires the cooperation of government institutions, communities, and citizens working together,” he said, expressing confidence that “through our shared resolve and cooperation, we will continue to strengthen the security of our nation.”
He further expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his continued support to the military.
“I most respectfully express our profound appreciation to the Commander-in-Chief… for his steadfast support to the Armed Forces of Nigeria,” he said, noting that such commitment has enhanced defence capabilities, operational resources, and personnel welfare.
The CDS concluded by wishing all military personnel and Nigerians a peaceful celebration.
“Once again, I wish all officers… and indeed all Nigerians, a peaceful and joyous Eid El-Fitr celebration. Eid Mubarak!”
