The Chairman of Ado Local Government Area, Engr. Sunny Oche, has dismissed allegations of interference and threats to lives surrounding the selection of a Ward Head in Ukwonyo Community, describing the claims as misleading and unfounded.

The clarification was contained in an official statement issued by his Principal Private Secretary, Innocent Igelle.

According to the statement, the ward head selection process had already been subjected to judicial review, with a competent court ruling in favour of the Ward Head-elect, thereby affirming the legitimacy of the exercise.

“The matter was duly adjudicated upon by a competent court of law, with judgment delivered in favour of the current Ward Head Elect,” the statement said, adding that the ruling “remains binding and subsisting unless and until it is set aside or stayed by a higher court.”

The Chairman also denied allegations of imposing any candidate, insisting that his office played no role in determining the outcome of the selection process.

“The allegation that the Chairman influenced or imposed any candidate is entirely false and without merit,” the statement noted. “The Office of the Chairman does not determine the criteria for selection, nor does it possess the authority to unilaterally install a Ward Head.”

It further emphasized that the process was conducted independently and transparently, with no record of inducement or coercion.

The statement reaffirmed the Chairman’s respect for established institutions, including the Benue State Bureau for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs and the Idoma Traditional Council, noting that decisions on traditional leadership fall within their jurisdiction.

“Decisions regarding traditional leadership are products of these legally and culturally recognised institutions,” it stated.

On reports of violence and intimidation in Ukwonyo Community, the Chairman condemned any form of criminality and called for proper investigation by security agencies.

“The Chairman unequivocally condemns any form of violence or threat to human life,” the statement said, urging residents to channel grievances through lawful means rather than spreading unverified claims.

The local government also appealed to stakeholders to maintain peace and avoid actions capable of escalating tensions.

“The spread of unverified allegations and inflammatory statements only deepens division and undermines collective progress,” the statement warned.

Reiterating his commitment to good governance, Oche assured residents of his dedication to justice, due process, and peaceful coexistence across the local government area.

“He remains committed to promoting transparency, fairness, and community harmony in all affairs,” the statement added.
