An attempted robbery at a major power installation in Ogbomosho, Oyo State, was thwarted after security personnel successfully repelled armed intruders who tried to breach the facility under the cover of darkness.

This was disclosed in a press release issued by the Transmission Company of Nigeria and signed by Ndidi Mbah, General Manager, Public Affairs.

According to the statement, the incident occurred in the early hours of May 10, 2026, at the Ogbomosho Transmission Substation when a group of armed men gained unauthorized access by scaling the perimeter fence near the entrance.

The attackers reportedly advanced towards the gatehouse with the intention of overpowering security personnel on duty.

“The intruders attempted to attack and immobilise the vigilante security personnel, but the team on duty responded swiftly by firing warning shots, forcing them to retreat,” the statement said.

The suspects fled through the same route they used to gain entry, abandoning tools and personal items in their haste to escape.

A subsequent inspection of the scene revealed evidence of the failed operation.

“Early morning checks uncovered implements suspected to have been used in the attempted attack, along with traces of blood and footprints leading to the escape route,” TCN disclosed.

Further search operations at daylight led to the recovery of a bag containing additional tools believed to belong to the fleeing suspects.

The company confirmed that the matter has been reported to security agencies, with investigations already underway to track down the perpetrators and prevent future incidents.

“No personnel were injured during the incident, and the situation has been brought under control,” the statement added.

TCN reaffirmed its commitment to protecting critical national infrastructure and ensuring the safety of its workforce, noting that a formal report of the incident has also been scheduled for submission to the Oba’s Palace.
