The Minister of Works, David Umahi, has directed the contractor handling the Abuja–Kaduna–Kano Road project to immediately open all completed sections of the highway to facilitate the free movement of travelers ahead of the Eid al-Adha celebrations.
The directive is aimed at reducing traffic congestion, improving safety, and ensuring smoother journeys for thousands of commuters expected to ply the busy corridor during the festive season.
This was contained in a press statement issued by the Office of the Honourable Minister of Works and signed by Francis Nwaze, Senior Special Assistant to the Honourable Minister of Works on Media, on May 25, 2026.
According to the statement, the Minister specifically instructed Infiouest Nigeria Limited, the contractor handling the project, to throw open all accessible portions of the road to motorists without delay.
“The Honourable Minister of Works, Senator Engr. David Umahi, CON, has directed the contractor handling the Abuja–Kaduna-Kano Road project, Infiouest Nigeria Limited to immediately open all sections of the road to ease the movement of commuters traveling during the Eid al-Adha festive period and ensure safer and smoother journeys,” the statement read.
The Minister also confirmed that an earlier accident recorded along the route had been fully cleared to restore normal vehicular movement.
“The Minister is aware of the earlier accident that occurred along the road, which has now been completely cleared,” the statement added.
To further guarantee safety and orderliness, the Federal Government said security agencies have been deployed to key locations along the highway corridor.
“Security agencies have also been deployed to strategic points along the road to maintain law and order and ensure the safety of road users throughout the festive season,” the statement noted.
The Abuja–Kaduna–Kano highway remains one of Nigeria’s busiest transport corridors, linking the Federal Capital Territory with several northern states and serving as a major route for commercial and passenger traffic.
