Nigeria and the Czech Republic have reaffirmed their commitment to deepening bilateral relations through enhanced cooperation in trade, agriculture, industrialisation, technology transfer, education, healthcare, and sustainable development initiatives.

The renewed commitment was made during a meeting between Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, and the Ambassador of the Czech Republic to Nigeria, Tomas Vyprachticky, in Abuja on Tuesday.

This was disclosed in a press release issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Abuja, and signed by Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, spokesperson of the Ministry, on May 27, 2026.

During the meeting, Ambassador Vyprachticky congratulated the Nigerian Foreign Minister on her appointment and conveyed the goodwill of the Czech government toward sustained engagement with Nigeria.

He reaffirmed the Czech Republic’s commitment to expanding cooperation with Nigeria in critical sectors including agriculture, investment, renewable energy, innovation, technical cooperation, and industrial development.

The envoy described Nigeria as “a strategic partner and a country of immense political and economic potential within Sub-Saharan Africa.”

According to the statement, officials of the Czech Embassy highlighted ongoing development and commercial projects across several Nigerian states, including Taraba, Delta, Edo, Ondo, Bauchi, Plateau, Lagos, Rivers, and Zamfara.

Particular attention was drawn to the supply of nearly 1,000 specially designed tractors and agricultural equipment to Taraba State in 2024 to boost mechanised farming and agricultural productivity.

Speaking during the meeting, Odumegwu-Ojukwu recalled the longstanding cordial relationship between Nigeria and the former Czechoslovakia, especially in industrialisation, technical cooperation, educational exchange programmes, and machinery supply.

She commended the Czech Republic for its contributions to Nigeria’s development and stressed the need to institutionalise bilateral engagements through stronger coordination mechanisms.

The Minister proposed the revitalisation of bilateral frameworks, including the establishment of a Joint Commission mechanism to coordinate cooperation in sectors such as trade, agriculture, defence, education, technology, and industrial development.

“She therefore proposed the strengthening and revitalisation of bilateral frameworks, including the establishment of a Joint Commission mechanism to coordinate cooperation in critical sectors,” the statement noted.

Both countries expressed satisfaction with the growing relationship between them and pledged to deepen diplomatic and economic cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
