Residents and businesses across Kano, Katsina, Jigawa, parts of Bauchi and Yobe states, as well as consumers in Niger Republic, are set to experience a temporary power outage on Sunday as the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) undertakes scheduled maintenance on a major transmission line serving the region.

The planned outage, scheduled to last from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on May 31, 2026, is aimed at facilitating critical repair works on the Mando–Kumbotso 330kV Transmission Line, a key infrastructure in the nation’s power transmission network.

The announcement was contained in a notice issued by the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) and signed by Ndidi Mbah, General Manager, Public Affairs, on May 30, 2026.

According to the statement, TCN’s maintenance crew will carry out its annual maintenance exercise on the transmission line and simultaneously repair a damaged Red Phase Conductor located on Tower T187 along the route.

The company explained that the maintenance work is necessary to ensure the continued reliability and stability of power supply across the affected region.

“The outage is necessary to enable TCN’s maintenance crew amend a damaged Red Phase Conductor on Tower T187 along the line route,” the statement noted.

As a result of the maintenance exercise, the Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) will be unable to receive bulk electricity supply from TCN for onward distribution to customers during the period of the outage.

The disruption is expected to affect electricity consumers in Kano, Katsina, and Jigawa states, as well as several communities in Bauchi and Yobe states. Customers in Gazaoua, Niger Republic, who are connected to the transmission network, will also experience a temporary loss of power.

Industry experts note that routine maintenance of transmission infrastructure remains essential to preventing major system failures and ensuring the long-term efficiency of the national grid, particularly as demand for electricity continues to rise.

TCN appealed to consumers in the affected areas for understanding and patience during the maintenance period.

“TCN apologises for any inconvenience this will cause consumers in the affected areas,” the company stated.

The transmission company assured that normal electricity supply would be restored immediately upon completion of the maintenance and repair works.
