The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and reducing poverty through stronger collaboration with the United Nations, development partners and other critical stakeholders, as it seeks to accelerate implementation of sustainable development initiatives across the country.
The commitment was made by the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Dr. Bernard M. Doro, during the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF) 2023–2027 Steering Committee Meeting held at the United Nations House in Abuja.
The development was contained in a press statement issued by the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction and signed by the Director of Information and Public Relations, Janet McDickson Noah, on **July 13, 2026.
The Steering Committee meeting brought together ministers, senior government officials, members of the United Nations Country Team, development partners, the diplomatic community and other stakeholders to assess progress under the UNSDCF 2023–2027 and strengthen collaboration towards achieving the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
Addressing participants, Dr. Doro said the Ministry remains committed to supporting both national and global efforts aimed at reducing poverty, expanding social protection and building resilient communities through coordinated interventions and strategic partnerships.
He explained that the Ministry’s flagship One Humanitarian–One Poverty Response System (OHOPRS) has continued to serve as an integrated national framework that harmonises humanitarian response, social protection and poverty reduction programmes under a single coordination mechanism.
According to him, the initiative brings together federal and state governments, United Nations agencies, development partners, civil society organisations and the private sector to deliver more effective, transparent and accountable interventions.
“The Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction remains resolute in supporting national and global efforts aimed at reducing poverty, strengthening social protection systems and building resilient communities through strategic partnerships and coordinated interventions,” Doro said.
The Minister also highlighted the National Poverty Intelligence Lab (NPIL) as a major innovation supporting the implementation of the OHOPRS, describing it as a real-time, evidence-based platform that enhances programme targeting, policy formulation, monitoring and accountability.
He noted that the platform is strengthening Nigeria’s capacity to tackle multidimensional poverty while supporting the attainment of the Sustainable Development Goals.
Dr. Doro commended the United Nations Resident Coordinator’s Office, the United Nations Country Team in Nigeria and development partners for their sustained commitment to supporting Nigeria’s humanitarian and development priorities.
He stressed that achieving the SDGs would require stronger institutional collaboration, innovative financing mechanisms, technology-driven solutions and sustained partnerships among governments, development agencies, the private sector and civil society organisations.
“Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals requires stronger institutional collaboration, innovative financing, technology-driven solutions and sustained partnerships among government institutions, development partners and other stakeholders,” the Minister stated.
He reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to implementing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda through coordinated humanitarian action, inclusive social protection programmes and sustainable poverty reduction initiatives.
Expressing optimism over the outcome of the meeting, the Minister said the resolutions reached by the Steering Committee would further strengthen collective efforts to build a more resilient, inclusive and prosperous Nigeria where no citizen is left behind.
The meeting served as a strategic platform for the Federal Government and the United Nations to review implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (2023–2027), deepen inter-agency collaboration and reinforce collective action towards accelerating sustainable development and improving the wellbeing of Nigerians.
