The Minister of Defence, General Christopher Gwabin Musa (Rtd), has applauded Nigeria’s security agencies for the successful rescue of pupils and teachers abducted from three schools in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, describing the operation as a major victory for intelligence-led security operations and a testament to the growing synergy among the nation’s security forces.

In a statement issued on Monday, the Minister commended the Armed Forces of Nigeria, the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), the National Security Adviser (NSA) Tactical Team, and other security and paramilitary agencies for their coordinated efforts that led to the safe rescue of the victims on July 10, 2026.

The victims had been kidnapped from Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Yawota; Community High School, Ahoro-Esinele; and L.A. Primary School, Ahoro-Esinele, all in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.

General Musa described the rescue mission as a “textbook example of modern, intelligence-driven security operations,” noting that the seamless collaboration among the various security agencies reflected exceptional professionalism, courage and unwavering commitment to the protection of lives and property.

According to him, the operation demonstrates the effectiveness of enhanced inter-agency cooperation and highlights the dedication and sacrifices of security personnel who continue to work under challenging conditions to defend the country’s territorial integrity and ensure the safety of citizens.

While celebrating the successful rescue, the Defence Minister paid glowing tribute to security personnel who lost their lives during the operation, describing them as gallant heroes who paid the supreme price in the service of the nation.

He extended his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, assuring them that the Federal Government remains committed to the welfare of the families of fallen heroes and will continue to honour their sacrifices.

General Musa also reaffirmed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s security architecture under the Renewed Hope Agenda through sustained investments in modern military hardware, intelligence capabilities, specialised training and deeper collaboration among security agencies.

“The ongoing investments are already yielding tangible results in the fight against terrorism, insurgency, banditry, kidnapping and other violent crimes across the country,” the Minister stated.

He urged military commanders and security operatives across all theatres of operation to sustain the current momentum and replicate the same level of coordination, professionalism and tactical excellence in ongoing and future operations.

The Minister further appreciated the Oyo State Government and residents for their support and cooperation during the rescue mission, stressing that effective community partnership remains vital to addressing Nigeria’s security challenges.

He also called on Nigerians to remain vigilant and continue providing timely and credible intelligence to security agencies to enhance ongoing efforts to combat criminality.

Reiterating the Ministry of Defence’s resolve to strengthen the nation’s security framework, General Musa congratulated all personnel involved in the successful operation and reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to building a safer and more secure Nigeria.
