HON. JOSHUA CHINEDU OBIKA-MHR, REDEEMS PLEDGE TO HONOUR FCT’S AWARD-WINNING GYNAECOLOGIST, DR. YIBALA AKPAMA EDIMEK
In a demonstration of his commitment to supporting excellence in the healthcare sector, the Member representing the AMAC/Bwari Federal Constituency, Hon. Joshua Chinedu Obika, has fulfilled a financial pledge made to Dr. Yibala Akpama Edimek. The lawmaker honoured the distinguished doctor yesterday in recognition of her exceptional performance at the West African College of Surgeons (WACS) Fellowship examinations.
The presentation ceremony took place at the office of the Mandate Secretary for Health and Environment, FCT Administration. The pledge was initially made last year through the Mandate Secretary, Dr. Adedolapo Fasawe, during Hon. Obika’s distribution of health items to hospitals across the Territory.
Dr. Yibala Akpama Edimek achieved remarkable recognition at the 65th West African College of Surgeons Annual Scientific Conference, held in Bamako, Mali, in February 2025. She emerged winner of two prestigious awards:
1. The Prof. Bello Osagie Prize for the Overall Best Candidate in the WACS Fellowship Examinations (Obstetrics and Gynaecology).
2. The Prof. Oladipo Alabi Ladipo Prize for the Best Female Candidate in the WACS Fellowship Examinations (Obstetrics and Gynaecology).
Hon. Obika warmly congratulated Dr. Akpama Edimek for her outstanding achievements, stating that she has made the Federal Capital Territory immensely proud. “You have brought these laurels home, and we celebrate your intellectual rigour and dedication. I have no doubt that this is just the beginning; your future awards will not only be for West Africa, but will resonate across the African Union and the entire world,” Hon. Obika remarked.
Expressing her profound gratitude, Dr. Yibala Akpama Edimek thanked Hon. Obika for his generous and timely gesture. She noted her appreciation, that the lawmaker chose to honour a pledge made in her absence, describing it as a testament to his integrity and character. She also extended her thanks to the FCT Administration for creating an enabling environment for her work.
The Mandate Secretary for Health and Environment, Dr. Adedolapo Fasawe, commended Hon. Obika for his unwavering love for humanity and his impactful representation, which continues to resonate positively across the Federal Constituency.
Also present to witness the event, Dr. Ahmadu, the Acting Director General of the Hospitals Management Board (HMB), FCTA, Abuja, offered prayers and blessings for Hon. Obika, appreciating his kind-heartedness and support for the health sector.
Hon. Obika was accompanied to this momentous occasion by notable leaders, including Hon. Dr. Ubasinachi, a political leader in the FCT, who also congratulated Dr. Akpama Edimek and lauded both Hon. Obika and the Mandate Secretary. Hon. Mathew Nneji, Special Assistant on Health and Humanitarian Services to Hon. Joshua Chinedu Obika, was also in attendance.
