The Nigeria Police Force has recorded a major breakthrough in its nationwide crackdown on violent crime, parading 50 suspects linked to terrorism, kidnapping, armed robbery, and other offences, while recovering a significant cache of weapons including an anti-aircraft launcher.

The arrests and recoveries were unveiled during a press briefing held on April 13, 2026, at the Force Intelligence Department–Intelligence Response Team (FID-IRT) headquarters in Abuja.

The details were contained in a press release issued by the Force Headquarters, Abuja, and signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Okon Placid, on April 14, 2026.

According to the police, the operations—carried out between January and April 2026—targeted criminal syndicates involved in high-profile crimes across the country, leading to the recovery of 17 rifles, one anti-aircraft launcher, 111 rounds of live ammunition, cartridges, magazines, vehicles, mobile phones, and communication उपकरणs.

“The recent operations represent a strategic offensive against syndicates that have long threatened the peace of the nation,” the statement said.

Major Syndicates Dismantled

Among the key breakthroughs was the dismantling of a 33-member gang linked to terrorism, cattle rustling, and the violent attack on a Christ Apostolic Church in Kwara State.

The police also announced the arrest of suspects responsible for the killing of three officers attached to the Donga Divisional Headquarters in Taraba State.

“The Force has also secured justice for its own by apprehending the kingpins responsible for the recent murder of three police officers,” the statement noted.

FCT, Surrounding States Safer

The Force further disclosed that targeted operations in the Federal Capital Territory and neighbouring states led to the arrest of criminal groups involved in “one-chance” abductions, car burglaries, and the use of fake police checkpoints to rob unsuspecting members of the public.

These operations, the police said, not only removed dangerous elements from the streets but also led to the recovery of stolen items and operational tools used by the suspects.

Arrest of Arms Suspect in Benue

In a related development, operatives arrested a 25-year-old suspect, Nasiru Ibrahim, in Benue State with an AK-47 rifle, a magazine, and eight rounds of live ammunition.

Preliminary investigations linked the suspect to a notorious bandit identified as Janari, who allegedly sold the weapon to him. Police say efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing accomplice and dismantle the wider network.

Police Reaffirm Commitment

The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to strengthening national security, noting that the achievements underscore the determination of the police to combat crime.

“These achievements serve as a testament to the relentless efforts of the Nigeria Police in the pursuit of justice,” the statement said.

The Force added that several suspects are already being prepared for prosecution, while operations continue to track down fleeing accomplices and recover more illegal arms.

“The Nigeria Police Force remains steadfast in its mission to uphold the rule of law and protect the rights of every citizen,” the statement added.
