FG Declares Two-Day Public Holiday for Eid-ul-Adha Celebration

The Federal Government has declared Wednesday, May 27, and Thursday, May 28, 2026, as public holidays to commemorate this year’s Eid-ul-Adha celebration across Nigeria.
The declaration was announced by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, as Muslims in Nigeria join millions around the world to observe the important Islamic festival marked by sacrifice, devotion, and compassion.
This was contained in a press release issued by the Federal Ministry of Interior and signed by the Permanent Secretary, Magdalene Ajani, on May 25, 2026.
According to the statement, the Federal Government’s decision reflects its recognition of the spiritual importance of Eid-ul-Adha to Muslim faithful across the country and in the Diaspora.
“This declaration affirms the Federal Government’s profound respect for the faith and spiritual heritage of millions of Nigerian Muslims who join the global Islamic community in observing this sacred occasion,” the statement said.
The Minister extended the Federal Government’s goodwill and congratulations to Muslims nationwide, describing Eid-ul-Adha as a period that symbolizes sacrifice, obedience to God, and love for humanity.
“Eid ul Adha is a festival of deep spiritual significance, grounded in the values of sacrifice, obedience to God, and compassion for one’s fellow man,” the statement added.
The government also urged Nigerians to use the festive period to pray for national peace, unity, and progress as the country continues efforts toward security and economic prosperity.
“The Federal Government urges all Nigerians to use this period for prayer and sober reflection, asking for divine guidance upon the country as it continues its pursuit of peace, security, and prosperity for every citizen,” the statement noted.
Reaffirming its message of national unity and peaceful coexistence, the Federal Government wished Muslim faithful a joyful and peaceful Eid celebration.
“It is in the spirit of brotherhood, shared humanity, and national unity that the Federal Government wishes all Muslims a peaceful, blessed, and joyous celebration,” the statement concluded.
