FG Deepens Humanitarian Alliance with Kaduna, Niger States to Expand Social Protection, Poverty Reduction

The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening partnerships with state governments to enhance humanitarian response, expand social protection programmes, and accelerate poverty reduction through coordinated interventions across the country.
The commitment was disclosed in a statement issued by the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction and signed by the Director of Information and Public Relations, Janet McDickson Noah, following separate courtesy visits by delegations from Kaduna and Niger states to the Honourable Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Dr. Bernard M. Doro, in Abuja.
Receiving the Kaduna State delegation led by the Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, Comrade Yunana Markus Barde, alongside the Chairman of the Kaduna State House of Assembly Committee on Humanitarian Affairs, Hon. Umar Auwal Bajimi, the Minister said the Federal Government remained committed to working closely with state governments to deliver sustainable humanitarian interventions.
Dr. Doro highlighted ongoing reforms within the Ministry, including the launch of the National Poverty Lab, which is aimed at promoting evidence-based policymaking and accelerating poverty reduction nationwide.
He also reaffirmed the Ministry’s resolve to implement the One Humanitarian, One Poverty Response System (OHOPRS), describing it as a coordinated framework for delivering people-centred humanitarian assistance across the country.
“The Ministry remains committed to working closely with state governments through the One Humanitarian, One Poverty Response System (OHOPRS) to deliver coordinated, sustainable and people-centred humanitarian interventions across the country,” the Minister said.
Dr. Doro commended the Kaduna State Commissioner for his consistent support and participation in the Ministry’s flagship programmes, particularly the launch of OHOPRS and other major humanitarian initiatives.
The Minister further disclosed plans to visit Kaduna State to strengthen collaboration and advance shared humanitarian priorities between the Federal Government and the state.
Earlier, Kaduna State Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, Comrade Yunana Markus Barde, congratulated the Minister on the recent wedding of his daughter and praised the Ministry for fostering stronger cooperation with state governments.
He appealed for increased Federal Government support for humanitarian councils established across Kaduna State’s local government areas, as well as enhanced interventions for persons with disabilities and other vulnerable groups.
In a related development, the Minister also received the Niger State Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, Dr. Ahmed Ibrahim Inga, who led a delegation that included the Director-General of the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) and other senior officials.
Dr. Inga commended the Ministry for promoting stronger collaboration with state humanitarian institutions, describing the renewed partnership as unprecedented and highly impactful.
He noted that Niger State continued to grapple with significant humanitarian challenges and acknowledged previous interventions by the Federal Ministry, which he said had positively impacted affected communities.
The Commissioner appealed for sustained Federal Government support to enable the state tackle its growing humanitarian needs.
Responding, Dr. Doro assured the delegation that the Federal Government would continue to strengthen collaboration with states in addressing humanitarian challenges through coordinated and sustainable interventions.
“Effective humanitarian action requires strong partnerships across all levels of government. The Ministry will continue to support states through collaborative, people-centred and sustainable interventions that improve the lives of vulnerable Nigerians,” the Minister stated.
The Minister emphasized that stronger cooperation between the Federal Government and state governments remains essential to improving humanitarian response mechanisms and delivering lasting solutions to vulnerable communities across Nigeria.
