ROTIMI AMAECHI, YOU MUST BE A LOAFER OUTSIDE PUBLIC OFFICE

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has criticised former Rivers State Governor and African Democratic Congress (ADC) vice-presidential candidate, Rotimi Amaechi, over his reported comments on his inability to afford medications for his late mother, Dame Ezinne Mary Oduah Amaechi.
The APC made its position known in a press statement issued in Abuja on October 4, 2026, and signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, CON.
The ruling party, while expressing condolences over the death of Amaechi’s mother, also prayed for the former governor’s wellbeing, describing his reported financial difficulties as inconsistent with his long years in public office.
Amaechi, who served as Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, governor of the state and Minister of Transportation, has also been a presidential aspirant and is currently the ADC vice-presidential candidate ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to the APC, Amaechi had previously claimed that he had become financially constrained to the extent that his wife was feeding him, while his latest reported comments indicated that he could not afford medications for his mother.
“Now, he has stated that his inability to afford medications killed his mother at 89,” the APC said.
The party further questioned how Amaechi, after several years in elective and ministerial positions, could experience such financial difficulties shortly after leaving public office.
“For four decades, Rotimi Amaechi freeloaded at the highest levels of public office. He was never hungry and could afford medications for himself and his family,” the statement said.
The APC also criticised Amaechi’s bid for the vice-presidency, alleging that his aspiration was aimed at returning to public office and benefiting from public resources.
“The same Rotimi Amaechi now asks Nigerians to make him vice president come 2027 so he can continue leeching on public treasury and keep the predatory lifestyle he has grown accustomed to,” the party alleged.
The APC concluded its statement by declaring: “The presidency is not a soup kitchen, and will not be a soup kitchen for Rotimi Amaechi,” while arguing that Amaechi’s own reported comments constituted an indication of his alleged unsuitability for the vice-presidential office.
