DAILY HOPE DEVOTIONALS: OCTOBER 24 CHRISTIANS AND TRUTH TELLING (2) CRIPTURE: COLOSSIANS 3: 8; EPHESSIANS 4: 24 – 25
As touched in yesterday’s devotional, issue of living telling the truth always has been an aged-long problem for mankind. Many institutions globally created place of sympathy for certain lies and permit lies. For instance, a secretary of a boss can tell a visitor that “Master has gone out” while he is in the office. It is never seen as lying when someone on call close by will tell the person at the other end that “I have travelled out of town.” The world started killing truth by refusing to speak truth even on little matters.
On the contrary, people are bending the truth issues, moving from little lies till getting to major ones such as perjury, fraud, or legal cover-ups. All falsehoods today that got the world’s consciences callused (emotionally hardened) started from minor lying.
It might be good for people to be junketing in lies, but Christian are to avoid lying spirit as much as possible. One major thing that makes one as believer of Christ is telling of truth. Honesty and truthfulness form the measures of new life in Christ (Col. 3: 9; Eph. 4: 24 – 25). Any believer in Christ who is being ruled by lying tongues cannot be taken a believer. Speaking truth belongs to those who have become “born again.” Christians are to put away lying spirit and put upon themselves spirit of truth. The Bible said that Christians are to “…put on the new self, which in the likeness of God has been created in righteousness and holiness of the truth” (Eph. 4: 24).
It is not funny at all hearing Christians speaking words full of lies. This does not present them as children of God. The Bible says that God is not a man that He should lie. Yes, God cannot lie! (Titus 1: 2; Heb. 6: 18). If God is not lying, we His children who are Christians are not to be caught up in lying but speaking truth. All through the ministerial period of Jesus He never bend truth. He boldly told His hearers that the words He speaks are truth (John 17: 3).
The fact that the world globally has trashed words of truth does not mean Christians should do same. *Whatever is not true, either word or action is against God’s perceptions of His children.* All we need do as Christians is to resolve in our minds to be speaking truth, even in small matters.
PRAYER:
HOLY SPIRIT OF TRUTH, fill my heart and mind with words and thoughts of truth always, even in this world of lies and hypocrisy in the name of Jesus Christ.
